Mid Pipe Modification

What are the potential plusses and minuses of having a reputable local exhaust shop simply remove the whatever resonators/cats are on the stock mid Pipe? It seems like this could probably be done for under $500.

I did this on a previous car and it worked out well.

I'm prepared to accept this might be a bad idea so I'd like some rational discussion as to why or why not.

If you have a good shop that can do clean welding work should be fine, use mandrel bent piping. The AA midpipe is 1k+

The work itself is not that complicated but why would you do that? This car is raspy as is.

If you are going to do a midpipe modification, get Active Autowerke for a cleaner exhaust tone

I'm still considering the AA mid Pipe, I just have a problem with the price. While $1200 isn't really that much in the the grand scheme, I'm just not convinced it's a fair price. I'll consult with a local custom shop and get their perspective before making my decision.

I will go with the AA midpipe I think you can purchase it for $999 with one of the venders on here. Will paint my muffler at that time.

My valves are always open right now so the AA midpipe will have a noticeable increase in sound IMO.

I installed the AA mid pipe last weekend. With the valves open, it sounds amazing! Way deeper and the burbles aren't obnoxious. Still doesn't sound like a normally aspirated engine but way better than stock.

I would say at least 30%. Deeper sound too.

Its a perfect increase for people looking to upgrade the sound without making the exhaust tone a lot louder

In all fairness to the car it's not a normally aspirated engine so is it a little unrealistic to expect it to ever sound like one? I'm glad you're happy with your AA mid pipe. Like you, I'm really liking mine and the way my car sounds now.

Exactly. And with the ASD turned off you can hear it all. I especially love the sound of the exhaust on downshifts to 4th, 3rd and 2nd coming up to a roundabout 👌🏻😎

Simple quick mod. Increases turbo spool sound thru the exhaust a little more if you have a DP and noticed a tiny bit more pronounced crackles

I too considered a simple cut and remove process for the 2 cats and resonator, but as I learned with my RS5, you don't get as clean a sound...and can't easily reverse the process.... So I bought a AA midpipe through Mike. Excellent experience and the end result is far more than I expected.
With the valves open it's about 30% louder with more pronounced cracks and burbles and in Efficient it settles right back down into Church mode.
I've now gone 1 step further and flashed the stage 1 91 octane tune from Bootmod3. It wakes the base exhaust sound up a tad but really fuels(literally...) the burbles, almost in excess, and I'm on Team Burble!
I'll now be tuning the tune to reduce the burbles in Sport to have 3 tiers of exhaust aggression.

I strongly recommend both the AA MP and BM3 Tune.

Enjoy!
