congrats, good choice on the car and definitely on the transmission type. i do not recommend learning MT on the M3 at all. u'll kill it, and u wont have a pleasant experience driving it, coz at first we all found it difficult to drive.

if you were in SoCal i would have met up with u like now to teach you, but ur 3k miles away
all i can offer is http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112651 and my best wishes

Practice in a large empty parking lot, simulate parking, backing up, turning along side acceleration and deceleration. 3rd gear will serve you well until you feel confident

... just learn to crawl first before you walk, and walk quite awhile before you run is my final advice.

wow, can't you rent a car or something? i would highly recommend that over doing it in the M3. you are not going to want to make some of those beginner mistakes on that M clutch.

I would turn off M mode and the Power mode which makes the throttle more sensitive.

I bought my first MT Accord back then and It forced me to learn how to drive stick. It was little rough at first but i learned pretty quick. Look on the brightside the car has uphill and downhill assist so that should be a plus for you.

agreed... the most nerve racking thing when learning to drive MT are hills. I love the hill assist feature on this car, makes it so easy to drive!!

this about it this way: not knowing MT limits ur car selection forever. next car u wanna drive like a Pcar or something u cant get in MT anymore. do it now better than later.

from this point and on u can only improve ur driving skills, it cannot go worse. when you're driving, remember, you are the only one on the road. everyone else can fuck themselves. serious.

this car will improve too, so u might be having a hard time but that's also because the car is breaking in. do not give up. remember when u started learning to drive at 16 or 18 or whatever, u sucked the first few times like everyone else.

nothing against DCT or whatever, but there's NOTHING that matches the joy and experience of MT. u'll get it, i guarantee it.

that thread i linked u man, see how many people learned to drive in no time... just give it a few weeks and u'll master it

You'll be fine.

I learned 6mt on my 05 M3. Had 2 hours of instruction on a Civic Hybrid, made my brother drive it off the lot, took it to an empty parking lot and drove it all Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. I also taught my girl 6mt in the e46 with maybe 5 hours of instruction and she picked up how to drive the e92 flawlessly and better than the e46.

I also bought a 01 YZF600 crotchrocket while in college without ever knowing how to ride/shift a motorcycle thinking I was gonna learn it on my own. After I dropped the bike to the pavement the first time I got on it, I decided to take a professional riding course.
