Anyone ordered automatic cargo cover ? How much is it ?

Yes I ordered it. $450 in the US for package "418 Luggage Compartment Package." I can't find much information about it and haven't seen it on any dealer builds but I'm excited for it. Should get mine delivered in a few weeks and will post an update on its function.

I would've but couldn't modify my order to add it. I think it'll be worth the $450

Just picked up our week 6 build today. Love the option. It does shrink the cover for the spare tire a bit

The light no longer lights the spare tire well.

I don't see that option in the US configurator. How do you order the automatic cargo cover? What does the X5 come with by default? A manual cargo cover?

it's on the order guide PDF, and yes you normally get a manual cover

Interesting. Does it also raise the trunk floor or otherwise reduce the trunk size at all? Also, can you control how and when the cargo cover automatically retracts vs when the whole thing sinks into the floor? Only when you lower the seats?

The luggage compartment package isn't only just the electronic cover, it also includes the anti-slip rails where the rubber strips in the rails inflate to keep stuff from sliding around while the vehicle is in motion.

Guess the point is you don't have to deal with storing the manual cover if you have stuff to haul.

If you look on the pics I took, the 2 buttons on the left side change the function of the cover. The top one switches it between off or auto mode. On auto mode, opening the truck opens it up, closing the trunk closes the cover. When off it stay open the whole time. The other button stows it away in the bottom. The option doesn't reduce space in the trunk area other than further crowding the spare tire space.

I have the Luggage Compartment Option and the dealer supplied the appropriate cargo liner/mat.
Little surprised when I first saw the liner as it looked odd and only covered 3/4 of the cargo area.
But if it was any larger it would cover the in-floor storage compartment and prevent the Luggage Compartment Screen from retracting.

Could you possible post a picture of this liner/mat? Perhaps the part number from BMW as well if you have it.

I have also ordered this option and know in advance that the dealer will supply the wrong liner/mat

Here are two photos of the Cargo Mat for G05 w/ Luggage Compartment Package - BMW Part # 51472458568C.

I apologize but the pictures are not the greatest quality but you can see the mat is about one foot short of covering the entire carpeted cargo area.

The second photos shows the Luggage Compartment coming out of the cargo floor and the flap that conceals it.

I needed to have the dealer add it to my order in early January when it became available. I had an existing order at that time which could still be changed.

I had the same thoughts but we've had previous suvs without the cargo mat cover and in 1 year the carpet was in horrible shape!

I can't figure that out either unless you travel A LOT, I can handle stowing a 18lb cover when it's in the way.


That said, I'd have ordered it just because it's very cool watching it operate. AND as a bonus, you get the missing nets from the sides.

According to a video (I think) or maybe I read it somewhere that the rubber rises as the car begins to move. That's why I thought we were defeating the purpose of what those rails were intended to do.
