Hello guys,
I do not want to write again what has been already written. We EU guys suffer from the bad, or better no sound of our M2 Competitions. I tried to go the cheapest way there is - REAR MUFFLER DELETE with the help of @ZaustworxCustomExhausts. My current experience with few hundreds with it. The rear muffler is huge piece of garbage, there is a big weight saving between 15-20 kg. Unfortunately the saving is made mostly behind the rear wheels, so the car is more tail happy. For me good. But the difference is note huge. The flaps are gone, I do not care. There is a slight drone between 1500-2500 rpm (3000 rpm) under slow acceleration. When no acceleration takes place there is almost 0 drone, the drone comes mainly from active sound which I will remove soon. So you can still live with it daily. The sound is more loud, you can here it inside. Under WOT it is massive. There is still the lawn moaner trace sound which has to be from the OPF but you can here more the metal sound of the S55. I really like it. The burbles now? Damn they are loud, I absolutely love it. Conclusion? I am happy with it. I might try to upgrade the original muffler to straight pipes for Sport Plus and the rest that still will go though the muffler. Lets see. Here the sound clip and some photos from cutting on Christmas Eve )) Check my other vides too. I wish to you all the very best in new year. [IMG][/IMG] |

Thanks for taking the time to video in different scenarios. I suspect eisenmann added the resonator between the two pipes in their race exhaust to tame the rasp and drone to some extent which u hear on the free rev in the video.
Hard to tell in the vid but under load sounds better. Regardless if you like it who cares !!

Maybe it's the audio in the video, but it doesn't sound that much louder than stock. That PoS OPF is choking the engine. Feel sorry for you EU guys.

Hate to bump an old thread, but did disconnecting the flap actuators throw a code? Having this done tomorrow and would like to know how you worked around it.
I've heard anecdotally that it's not an issue as long as you shut it off with the valves open before disconnecting. |

Just went down the same path as the OP:
Muffler removed: Loudener installed: post images Muffler and secondary cats cut out and replaced with custom mandrel bent stainless piping. Sounds pretty much as illustrated in the original post. The factory resonator remains though I'm considering having it replaced with an x-pipe at some point. May also add a resonator closer to the exit similar to the Eisenmann Race piece. Edit: A little added info, total cost for labor and materials was ~$850. Could have had it done for closer to $650 if I would have kept the secondary cats. Veebee thinking of doing the same mod, or possibly the eisenmann race box.
Just wondered if you got any issues with limp mode from the muffler delete? When i asked eisenmann about just using the race box they mentioned that it would go into limp mode, so presumably the muffler delete would too? Either that they're talking sh!t and I don't see how if you're not touching the opf anyways. |

That was my understanding.
However, the OP hadn't alluded to any opf /limp mode issues. Also on another forum (MR on m3cutters) had alluded to the slip on (remus akra etc.) and muffler deletes were the only options if you didn't want to tune ECU and or touch the OPFs. |
