Any UK M40i owners on 21” wheels

As per the subject I am looking for any UK owners who can provide ride quality reports, adaptive suspension would also be part of the sport plus pack too.

I have a UK M40i on 21’s with adaptive.

It’s firm but also soft at the same time, I think it rides very well.

For the first time ever I would actually think about replacing the runflats with runflats.

Thanks for the reply I am coming from an M235i without adaptive but on the standard 18” wheels. I need it to be more comfortable than the M235i

I have a 21" and Eibach lowering springs and it rides absolutely fantastic even on bad Czech roads.

I am at 'nearly ready to order' stage for a M40i. I will go M Sport + pack and so have the same dilemma and was interested by teaston's order thread in which he compares the comparative cost of 21" RF tyres and 20" NRF tyres. Something to consider as well as ride quality?

Looks like the new Bridgestones on the 21” wheels are good for at least 20,000 miles, we only do 10,000 a year so not so worried about tyre prices, winter tyres are more of an issue

I’d agree there, winter tyres are very limited and therefore seem to be very expensive, compounded by having to find a pair of two sizes preferably
the same model & spec.

I found some reasonable prices on Falken Euro winter by the bloody load index ratings aren’t enough.

For comparison the M40i on 21rft rides much better than my previous 640d which had 20” non rft and adaptive drive. Some of that may be down to me comparing a 2011 car with 80k to a new car. The 30 & 35 profile sidewalks on the 640d cannot help matters either.

Not as dim as me, as I can't find it either! I'm hoping teaston might come to the rescue and point us in the right direction.

I don't think I really gave a comparison, more just saying the 21's are a lot more expensive.

I think you can get the old model Pirelli P zero 20" for around £140 or the standard fit Yokohama for £160 each, but on the 21's you're looking at least £250 each for a decent tyre.

It would be a big problem for me as I change rear tyres every 10 months and fronts around 18 months.

Apologies, I must have read it somewhere else. From what I can see a 21" RFT ranges between £275 (Bridgestone) and £370 (Michellin) on Black Circles (fitted prices). 20" Non RFT are at least £100 cheaper.

Yes rft's are even more expensive, but then why would you fit them?

Thanks Teaston, 21" about same price as the 640d...

Cool, if you're ok with those prices then go with the 21's, they are beasts of wheels!

I remember buying a 5 series Msport a few years ago and always regretting one with the 18” wheels and then paying big money for 19” wheels and tyres. I think I will stick with the standard 21’s and runflats but appreciate the feedback on here.

Mine drove quite nicely on 21" wheels with adaptive suspension and run flat tyres, however it drives a lot smoother and handles better with 20" wheels and non run flat tyres lowered 25mm with Eibach springs.

Thanks to the winter tyre post and link to mrwinterwheels

£1600 for 19” wheels, OEM TPMS and Winter tyres, that’s my mind made up regarding sticking with 21” wheels
