With all the accidents BMW are seeing with F90 M5 with the ability to turn off 4WD, you may see Insurance go up on these cars or BMW disable the 2WD option? I didn’t know Audi didn’t allow you to switch.

As if the previous M5s were 4wd?

It's just a case of driver error. It could also be that in 4WD, the car is so unflappable that drivers aren't making the adjustment mentally when shifting to RWD. Any experienced driver will be able to do this. I used to have a Boxster Spyder that was fully modified and tuned - intake, throttle body, headers, exhaust and tune. That car was incredibly balanced even though it had higher power and lower weight. A group of us went up to Bear Mountain to drive and midway through I switched with a friend of mine who was driving his F12. I remember coming out of a left turn and putting my foot down - I almost lost the rear end. It was nothing more than forgetting how different the power and handling characterists were of that car after coming out of mine. I was fine and quickly regained control, but I can see how an inexperienced driver could get into real trouble.

Shifting to RWD is, in essence, like driving a completely different car.

RWD is a guess ... AWD can correct certain levels of driver error but certainly not all.

Speed + inexperience is usually the culprit.

If that happened recently, it could be because it was cold. Looking at the plate and location, it is Audi in Winnipeg. Today's high is in the 30's, so on summer tires it would be like driving on ice. They still weren't careful but much easier to spin the car in the cold.

Actually this is the 4th First Edition to crash.

The first accident was posted all over this forum back in May, pic attached.

There were 2 other First edition crashes, see pics attached. All 3 of them are different cars.

So looks like only 396 left.

I know the guy who owns this M5.

This is one of two in the world, first editions, with a sunroof.

His old car was a manual F80 M3 that he took euro delivery of.

He also has a ton of hot lapping days, and HPDE events under his belt, with his M3 and M5. I'm not sure how this happened either, but the Audi dealer is just passed a round-about and there a lot of construction in that area. Combined with the fact that it's hovering around the freezing mark here and it doesn't look like he's on snow tires yet, probably a miscalculation.

Don't think that makes a difference, practically every performance car has either the option or comes with ceramics, if ceramics has performance issues in the cold, auto makers wouldn't be selling them.
