Road debris damage to kidney
Driving down the road this morning and the guy in front of me decided to drive right over a piece of rubber from a truck tie blow out. Kicked it right at my grill. I guess that I should feel lucky that this was the extent of the damage, but still...
How bad is this, or is it just am excuse to get black kidneys?I see the broken clips and it's a bit nerving. |

(But wash the car thoroughly first!)

Same thing happened to me. I was in my wife's 1er (with the black grilles). I saw the big chunk of rubber heading right at me, but had no time/space to maneuver. I was hoping it would bounce under the car. Plastic pieces flew everywhere/shattered about 3/4s of the slats. I was afraid to look at the car when I got home. Fortunately, I had the original chrome set packed away.

What should I be concerned about? I looked through the grill with a flashlight, and don't see any damage to the radiator. There's a small crack in the bumper cover on the right side of the kidney, but it will be hidden by the new kidneys.

Well I ordered the grilles - black m sport style kidneys. Hoping they look good on the imperial blue - haven't seen many on that color. I guess when I get to installing them I'll see if there's any other damage.

It finally stopped raining! Got to wash and do a kidney transplant this morning.
So if anyone is looking for a picture of black kidneys on an imperial blue, here it is. I know I had trouble finding a picture |

So bringing this back from the dead. I've been struggling with me A/C not really working well. It will work fine four a short while and then just blow warm air. I just remembered about this happening and was wondering if something might have gotten damaged and leaked out refrigerant when this happened.
Is there something up front that I can look for? |

Had the same thing happen but it was a 1 foot piece of a 2x4 or wood stud. Broke slats and left a mark on the edge of the black paint. I had plasti-dipped mine black and they held up fairly well. Popped them back into place the best I could and it's fine and not really noticeable.
Cool upgrade Billfitz, that has to be better protection than stock plastic slats. When the 2x4 flew up and hit me I had no idea how bad the damage was until I got off the highway at the next exit. I was expecting worse honestly.

The LCI added a second protective layer behind the slats. I bet a lot of first generation F3* owners have suffered rock damage to their radiators and evaporators. I mean really, a grille that won't stop anything smaller than a golf ball? Are the Germans not familiar with the concept of tits and bulls?
