Thumbs down 2200 miles with the F90 and...

I am a beemer guy I have owned them all, I am coming from a 2015 F10 M5 by far my fave BMW, when I bought the F90 I didn't test drive it due to all of the hype, I wish I had I would have kept my F10, here is why:

1) there is no difference from the sport button to the sport plus button as far as the engine, push it and its literally the same feel.. where in the f10, you FELT the engine change from each setting. You would be in sport and click sport plus and FEEL a change FEEL the car morph into a stronger car, this car you feel no change, you only feel a change from economy to sport, boring.

2) the car is way too sterile to be an ///M it honestly feels boring to me the way my 2013 550 felt, yeah its quick, ok... but nothing else, no soul no character no rawness no real M feel

3) the car wanders, and it feels disconnected from the road, again sterile, my f10 felt like a monster you felt the road you felt connected, it felt like a raw m car

4) the transmission is boring as hell, the DCT made noise, it THUMPED it was exciting and fun, the shifts clicked in like an exotic car, it was amazing, this automatic is an automatic... why would you do that?

4) they put 328 paddle shifters on a 120,000 M5

5) the heads up display is terrible in comparison to the previous car

6) for a new M5 the styling is just OK, the M3 looks better imo

7) the stereo is TERRIBLE its such an expensive car and my E93 M3 had an amazing stereo

For me this car is for a conservative person that drills a front plate, buys it for the status because he has nothing to do with his money, never really goes past 90mph or past 5000 rpms, its so sterile and numb, they sucked all the fun out of the car, I wish I had saved the cash and kept my 2015 beast of an m5

I want to love it, I like it yeah but I lusted after the previous car, sorry don't mean to be a buzz kill, yeah the car is fast AF, but so what? an M car should be more than that and not feel like a 550.

MY 2013 550 to my 2015 M5 was a HUGE difference in feel in everything, where the 2018 M5 feels like my 2013 550 ... go figure.

bottom line is... don't believe the hype.

Totally disagree. Coming from an F10, the F90 has the soul and fun factor.

Appreciate your honesty and feedback. I suspect most on this board will disagree. But that is why car companies make so many different cars...definitely not a one size fits all.

There is always something that person likes or dislike on car, I am not big fan of transmission that's because I drove mine whole life manual.
More engaging more and more fun to drive. But you can't have it all. Lol
I love how it puts the power down where most mine previous car struggled, there is always a compromise or sacrifice you have to make.
Overall I love the new M5

Buddy of mine just bought a used F10. Plenty on the market. Sell yours and get happy. Life is too short to be that dissatisfied.

I like my F90 better than the 2017 Zo6 I used to own.

Like you i've had many M cars. Never replaced my 14 m5 for most of all the reasons you stated here. I wanted to like it but overall it doesn't have what the previous models had. Thank god i never bought one yet, I can get a great deal one too but i'm leaning towards the E63s, Mercedes caught up, and BMW fell asleep. The F10 had a stance, a presence this one doesn't, although it's quicker but there's more to a car than just plain speed.

Not sure quite what you've got there I know US cars are not the same as European ones , but mine is nothing like your saying, in sport+ it transforms into a monster, and corners and accelerates way better than the two F10 M5's I had and the M6 gc CP, this car is better than all of them.
Get it checked.

you feel a difference when it is in sport to sport plus? I dont.
in the f10 you would hit sport plus and the car would jump forward as if you hit the gas

I completely disagree. Comparing it to F10 550i is just insane. I've owned 3 F10's and 2 were M5's and will not trade my F90 for any of them.

I've traded two different new cars that I did not like. 3 months and 6 months. Sell it and get happy. Life is short.

It just ups the Boost, ready to blast, drop it in comfort whist driving along then hit the sport+.

one more thing...
at a full stop in any mode in drive mode or shifting when you punch the gas there is a slight pause a slight hesitation
is that turbo lag?
or is that because its AWD?
again in any mode in AWD it does this

my f10 would take off as soon as you punched it, this one there is a rev and then it goes, maybe turbo lag????

anyone?

Mine does not do that either, but I must add I do not just stamp on the throttle, It's so fast it scares the wife if I do.

Check this out.

If you really WISH you would've kept the F10 then I don't know why you wouldn't sell the F90 and buy the F10 for a lot cheaper and keep the extra cash.

Saying all that and decided to keep the car instead just make no sense. do yourself a favor and sell the F90 for the F10 and be happy with it.

Your first 4 points kinda point to you not driving the car very hard. I disagree with all those 4 points when you are getting on it.

must be the slushbox. the engine and everything else in the driveline is the same as the F10 sans the awd. my e70 does the same thing and I hate it. I'm beginning to think I will look elsewhere for a replacement for my f10 m5. would be my first non bmw.

2013 550 feels like the 2018 M5?? Something don't add up. Lol the reason it isn't as raw of a car like the F10 M5 is cause it's 2018 not 2013 they tend to make cars more efficient as the years go on. I've had 3 F10 M5's F06 M6gc and the F90 kills every single one in every aspect IMO
