12v USB Cigarette Socket Lighter

The standard 12v USB Cigarette Socket Lighter adapter that I use in other vehicles isn't BMW friendly. It fails to work in the center console unless it is held down. Doing a search I came across other posts of people having the same issue. Im wondering if anyone can post a picture of their USB cigarette socket lighter that works in the center console and possibly a link where you purchased it from

Dont have a photo but i have the same issue in both my e46 and f30, you have to hold it down well, and pray that it wont move one little bit or it will stop charging. E46 holds it better

It’s because it’s a proper cigarette lighter rather than an accessory socket. Look for and adapter which has either a narrow and or tapered end. The problem with some adapters is that if they are too stubby at the connecting end then the prongs that clip onto the end of the cigarette lighter get in the way.

BMW's light sockets have been a "different" size since the 70s. One of my early radar detectors (Escort) came with a plastic sleeve (with a slit in it for the electrical contact) to make the plug fit tighter. You could also use some electrical tape in the right position to make it "fatter."
Good luck!

I've been running these Aukey's with zero issue regarding loose connections: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 in any of the BMWs (E30/E34/E39/F30/F15)

The down side is that the top of the adapter sticks out enough I can't leave it in the ash tray (pre LCI) port. I've moved to the port under the passenger side dash instead.
