Engine oil low

I'm at 4,700 miles and got the infamous "engine oil low add 1 qt" message. I've heard mixed answers in the past but

1) How long can you go until adding oil?
2) Is this oil add covered by BMW during the initial few years?

A dealer will add a quart for you sure if you stop by. I would not go wide open throttle until you add the quart. Part throttle an 50 miles.

Here we go again... Will they ever fix the oil consumption on their V8s? Maybe finally with the new engine revision in the M850i and the 2020 M550i (new cylinder walls and piston rings)? Let's hope.

This happens to a lot of turbo cars, including the N54.

Only solution I found was to switch to Redline and or liqui-moly oils

I wouldn't consider 1 qt. at 4700 miles to be high consumption. Additionally, you'll find a wide variation in oil consumption related directly to driving style. I think we need to compile a lot more information as others chime-in with their consumption figures. Maybe I've missed it, but I'm not seeing this talked about as being a problem anyplace on the forum.

I received a legal notice for my 2015 550v8 to recover out of cost oil, battery and they offered $1k to 1.5k off next Bmw Purchase. See link below to the case.

Now given they covered the oil that did not bother me. The 3 x 19inch Goodyear tires that got bulges in the 1st year now that's another matter.

Same for my 17 M3, 18 M4, and now my 18 M5.... Could be just coincidence.

My companions got that additionally a legitimate notification for my 2019 550v8 to recuperate out of cost oil, battery and they offered $1k to 1.5k off next Bmw Purchase. See connect underneath to the case.

Presently given they covered the oil that didn't trouble. The 5 x 19inch Goodyear tires that got swells in the second year well that is another issue.

Oddly bmws i have ordered or bought before they landed have not consumed much oil (to the tune of never having to add).

Current m5 ordered in the first batch of f90 shows full up to when it needs a change. Even with multiple track days mixed in. Current x7 50 same boat (sans the track days). M4 same. Last x5 50, 550, m3 bought off the lot all burned a ton.

Im sure its coincidence...that or they were abused in test drives before i bought them. Curious if anyone else noticed same.

Every single bmw turbo v8 I've owned I had to add a quart of oil at some point. My old X5M was always thirsty lol. F90 I've had to do it once around 9k mileage mark or so.

For my F90 M5C, i collected the car with 10miles on the clock, drove out of the dealers went on the main road i and revved to max revs the vehicle manual mentioned, 5k rpm. During the life before break in service i did bring the car up to 6k rpm just before the break in service. 1.5yrs later at 7900miles, no engine oil consumption issues whatsoever
