Two words on the competition package!

Two words on the competition package, yesterday I went to the BMW workshop and asked to check which parts I had to buy to upgrade my car to competiton ... I discovered that: the front torsion bar is the same, only the rear torsion bar changes , and the engine supports (2). Another and only difference are the suspensions (4) that have different springs and attacks. For the engine there are no particular news as several tests say that the "normal" M5 has in sport + 626 hp already ... it's all less dramatic than I thought! Boys with little money, competition for everyone!

Who cares? It’s a little different. You still have an M5, which is a dream car for 99% of the world. I realized a long time ago that striving to have the best/most/fastest is a futile effort. An M5 is so far beyond the capabilities of almost every driver that buys one that a couple minor tweaks to the Competition model are not going to make your “regular” M5 any less capable or exciting.

I actually just like the look of the comp package, and for the same reasons Speedy mentioned above, have no need for any additional power or whatever. Yet to find anyone with a car that can keep up, except the many McLarens and 911 Turbos I see around town, but they dont usually have any interest in racing lol.

I just decided to wrap the parts on my car (mirrors and all of the chrome) to make it look like the comp model because I think the comps look really cool.

Agree I will never fully exploit mine.
I do love driving it though.

I agree on the looks. I wrapped my chrome bits in black for around $100. I don't need 17 more hp or a slightly stiffer, lower car.

I agree, my "regular" or "base" M5 does exactly what I need very well: commute to work with a lot more fun and run around doing stuff on weekends, and still be a source of envy at most valet stands.

For lower/stiffer, there are true sports cars, and someday that's what I'll buy as a supplement to the F90 (if I can afford it).

Obviously it is the technical aspect that interests me of the competition, to understand what upgrades can be done in terms of driving but above all of driving pleasure. So it is not so much the color of the chrome, but the driving sensations, and I can say that the competition actually has only four dampers, a torsion bar, and two stiffer engine mounts. I can also say that, if you want to keep the car performing on the road, and not make it too rigid, just put the torsion bar, and the engine mounts, and you have done a great driving upgrade

Not to mention the base M5 can hang with super cars in the quarter mile and run a 7:38 around the ring. It's a world class numbers car disguised as a lux sedan. I just don't see the need to add a little more of anything. There is always a little more you could add, even to a 488 or a GT3RS.

I know for some, money isn't an issue, but if we say the difference is about $7K and I could build my car again, I would probably get CCB instead of the competition package. I just hate the brake dust and I have to deal with that every day. Having the slightly better track suspension will help me maybe a handful of times for the life of the car.

The looks on the other hand, I can see if people choose it instead of buying the mods separately.

Completely agree. If money wasn't an issue, I'd get CCBs on every car I buy.

My father in law had a 911 C4S with CCBs, and some of the Porsche forums give the guys that buy those brakes a hard time if they don't track the car, because they say they're just trying to show off their wallet size. But for him it was all about not having to deal with the brake dust.

I agree--I hate brake dust, and I think the gold/yellow brakes look awesome, so if I had the money I'd absolutely get them (and probably will in 3 years on whatever car I lease next).

Look into aftermarket Ceramic Brake Pads (EBC, Cool Carbon, Carbotech, Powerstop). I've done this on both of my F10 M5's and zero dust, no squeal and OEM feel.

I plan to do this on my F90 M5 Comp as well.

Not sure what's available just yet, but options should become available soon.

To each his own. The Competition pkg adds 7300 to the price. Many find the wheels worth the cost, I see them as a value of about 5 grand. But then 17hp and 7mm lower is a worth more than the remaining 2 grand. Black grills are a must have too but at only a 550 port option, not a big deal.

I have the CCB for the first time, it was on the car new when I bought it, they really are great and my wheels never get dirty.

Most people who really track their cars don't use CCBs. CCBs are actually best suited for the street.

There are way too many variables in the statement you made. CCBs are horrible in cold temps, so they really aren't ideal for the street. They are fantastic on the track, however, people steer away from them due to the replacement costs.

This was my understanding as well. They are superior on the track, but people who track their cars often don't get them because of how expensive they are to replace.

Lol but the very next sentence says, "Motorsports will obviously expedite wear. When temperatures exceed 600°C, carbon fibres inside the brake pad start to burn. This oxidative wear reduces the weight of the carbon ceramic brake. Once the minimum weight is reached, the brake must be replaced."

Couple of q-
1) What is the cost of replacement for the CCB?

2) How do the CCBs from BMW compare to other brake kits like Brembo?
