Blank iDrive Screen caused by Phone?

My 5 series iDrive screen goes blank periodically, locking the phone, sat nav, climate, entertainment etc. In order to reset I have to leave the car for around 15 minutes.

BMW reprogrammed the central control unit which didn't work. Now they are blaming it on an incompatible phone that I have paired with the car. I don't see how they could release a system that can be wrecked in this way by a bluetooth device.

Has anyone else heard of this problem?

Yes. My 545i did it, seemed to be triggered by extreme heat. Dealer couldn't figure out a damn thing on more than one visit. My 545 was a nightmare.
