Exhaust valve modification

Has anyone consider/tried manually wiring the exhaust valves open, as people did with the F10, such that full sound is available on cold start up and idle? It seems that even with the exhaust button engaged, they only open in certain conditions. Anyone forsee any problems with doing this?

You could try it. Easy to do since these are electric like the X5M. Turn the console button on, go to Sport Plus mode , rev the engine and unplug the connector at each valve. Flash a light into the pipe to insure they are open.

Did this on my X5M and had a slight drone at 1700rpm cruise. Replaced the system with Akra. The M5 is so quiet inside, it should be fine.

I just pulled the connectors this evening, wrapped them in electrical tape, and zip tied them out of the way. Had to remove two retaining screws on each side holding the plastic skid plate to gain access. No codes thrown at startup, and definitely has that cold start growl I was wanting.

Interesting.

I've done this on my previous X5M , with Manhart exhaust.

Do you guys in the US have the M-Sport exhaust , with this button ?

I have the standard exhaust, not M sport, as it was not available when I ordered. I do have that button, although even with that button on, the valves close on startup. Cold starts and low speed cruising are now much more energetic. You just have to make sure the flaps are open before you pull the connector wires, otherwise they will be stuck shut.

How does it sound at light throttle 60-70mph? That was the only problem zone with the X5M.

I'll try it out this coming week. Hopefully no drone.
