M240i to M2C?

Hello everyone, I am in the Army and currently stationed in Germany. I bought a new M240i in 2016 (2017 MY) and picked it up at the Welt. 2 years later I have a extreme desire to get the M2C before returning to the U.S. and take advantage of the military price and no sales tax opportunity. Here is what I am looking at.

Current Car: 2017 M240i MW, Coral Seats, Manual, with every option available at the time and 14K miles. I owe 31,000 - dealer offered me $33,000 (all three I tried in the area including the dealer I bought it from) WTF? I have it posted for $36,000 on facebook and other sites here in Germany but no luck at all in three weeks.

M2C: Manual, Executive Pack, Black wheels, Metallic Paint (torn between BSM,HS,SO,LBB in this order) I know thats all the metallic colors. I really want the BSM but I am very scared of the maintenance (never owned a black car) then there is the choice of seat color, but that will depend on exterior color. Military price out the door and with pick up at the Welt is $54,585, dealer is also throwing in a demo (320i) while I wait (I was told 4 weeks) and the 1200 mile break-in service for free and a $400 parts credit. Another option is to order my car exactly as I want and let the dealer use it as a demo for an additional 6% off the price for a out the door figure of $51,595. Salesman assured me that only dealer employees would drive the car up to the 1200 mile service, then dealer would complete the service, then allow other customers to test drive only with him as a passenger never alone. This option will cause me to wait longer and wait till the car reaches 2500 miles before taking delivery at the dealership.

Current M240i is financed through PFCU at 1.74%.
Their rates have since increased and the best I can get with them is 2.74%.
I put 10k down on the M240i and would be losing almost all of it with the trade-in. I am already approved by PFCU and would not consider another one at this time.

My questions are: Is it worth upgrading given the loss in equity and higher interest rate?

Should I buy truly brand new at $54,585 or demo at $51,595 with 2.5k miles?
Either option includes free break-in service at 1200 miles (I was told this service costs $650 euros here in Germany), $400 parts credit and would be built to my specs.

Which color exterior? I am set on the black wheels and manual transmission. Also for me the most important with exterior color is ease of maintenance and color that hides dirt/scratches best.

I apologize for the long post. I wanted to summarize the situation as best and as short as possible. I appreciate the feedback, hopefully positive and constructive. Thank you everyone.

I think this is the most important part - how much is 2.5k miles worth to you? $1.20/mile doesn't sound too bad imo. But on the flip side, it's 2.5k miles of potential abuse.

Curious on the free break in service. It was included in my state-side purchase. Is that different in EU?

Its not included here even though its a U.S. spec. vehicle. Also no free maintenance, no navigation support, no wifi hot spot, no satellite radio and no Apple CarPlay while I am in EU. All those things won't work until I am back in the U.S.

I guess the answer is depending on how long you are planning on keeping the M2C. If it 2 years like your M240i, I would let them demo it. The value in two years will be the same and you will be $2.5K ahead. If you plan on keeping it for a long time, I would pay the extra and break the car in yourself.

For 3 years or less of ownership of the M2C, you are covered by warranty if anything goes wrong because of the demo. You may even be able to get the dealer to CPO the M2C.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you end up doing! I am in a very similar boat. 2016 M235i custom ordered on my last deployment. I’m headed to Kuwait for a year, then Italy for 2-3 and I’m strongly considering an M2C after my first winter there. For now, I’ll be storing, then shipping the M235i and taking a massive depreciation hit if/when I trade it in, but that’s okay. I’m pretty fickle with car purchases so I’d rather keep my current car in case I decide to buy a mid-90s Defender instead (and keep the F22).

Thank you for your service!

I'm curious to know how much the OTD price would be without the military discount though.

$400 parts credit...awesome...you can buy 1/16 of an M Perf CF hood!!

I was recently offered a chance at an allocation on an M2C and I passed it up (today) - but my circumstances are quite different than yours as I already have an F87 LCI. If I were in your shoes, I would move ahead with the upgrade. Life is short and if you want an M car, then you should get one...provided you don't need to live in it, lol. As for black...my first brand new car was black...bought it when I was 19. Now, on the wrong side of 40 and have NEVER bought another black car....and never will. Scratches like a mofo. That said, I suppose you can always PPF the crap out of it...but that is costly. I did only the front, hood and sides of my LCI and it was $3K.

No bias whatsoever, but LBB is pretty nice

GL with your decision.

I appreciate the support!!

The price without military discount is MSRP $58,900. The military discount is exactly 10% off the base price and all options. Its nice not to have to haggle over price or pay MSRP, especially since these cars will most likely be marked up at dealers across the U.S. Another big savings of getting here is not paying sales taxes. Although it depends on your home state sales tax rules.

Yes I've always wanted an M car, so I am moving forward with the upgrade. Thanks for the advice on the black, I am going SO with orange stitching. I will have the PPF completed before taking delivery. I plan on keeping this for a long time.

Bold move, sir--on both the car and the color! I'd expect nothing less from a fellow service member. I bought my only new BMW via Mil Sales in K-town in 1998 and kept that car for 17 years--Avus blue 318ti Sport with Cali roof. I hope that you hang on to your M2C for at least that long!
