Lowering E92 vs Lowering E93

Is it any different?
I was told that the E93 (cab) will need different lowering springs then the E92because of the added weight from the hardtop convertible?

Is this true?

If so, the way I see it is - it just might sit a little lower then it should because its not meant for the added weight which is fine by me. as the H&R only gives .6 in the back, but the RD Springs give 1 full inch in the back. So maybe it would just be more similiar to the RD Springs ?

Any insight?

it is different.

the spring rates are different because of the weight. It's not that it would sit lower but the control/stability would be lost. For example when driving 100 k down the 401 and hitting a dip in the road the spring rate factors in the cars weight for suspension travel and suspension compression, under hard load this will prevent the shock from bottoming out or car from hitting the bump stops. if the weight of the car is too much for the spring or the spring is not correct when hitting a dip in the road or corning hard you will have a soft feel or a bouncy feel that would/could cause a car control issue, the car would propably feel crappy. I would wait for the right springs to be made.

You have a point. but consider this.. I usually drive alone or with a passenger next to me. But I rarely take passengers in the back, but say I have 2 of my buddies who are 200 lbs each in the back of the car...thats an extra 400 lbs (similiar to the added weight of the convertible). so will that make my car not handle right etc...

It most definitely will, the extra 400 lbs in the rear will not only cause the rear to sag and suspension travel to be limited but cause excessive tire wear. You can have 400lbs of extra weight in passangers but it's also not going to be permanent.

If you think about a race car when weight gets added it get put in spots that make the car handle better not just dumped in the rear.

also think about it this way, a tennis ball will bounce when round and in normal form but if you squish the ball and take the rebound out of it it will no longer bounce it will just drop. That's what you would be doing would be taking the bounce out of the spring causing the rebound and compession to be different and the suspension would now be able to bottom out.

it might look o.k. when not driving and parked but when driving it wouldn't feel right nor look right.

Do you guys think these KW Variant 3 Coilover System for the BMW E90 & E92 M3 or the Bilstein B16 Electronic Ride Control Coilovers - BMW E90-E92 work on my E93 M3?

Most likely yes, but I don't want to lose EDC!

AND not because EDC is better then Full coilovers, but because I already paid extra $2000 in the car to have EDC, i dont want to lose it!

So I will be the first... I will order the E92 M3 Springs from H&R for my E93. I will let you know how it goes

Thats the first I've heard this... My buddy has an E60 M5, lowered for almost 3 years now and no issues with his EDC whatsoever.

And I asked my service guy and he said warrany wont be effected by the springs either!

I got my H&R Springs coming tomorrow, thanks to EDELWEISS - good man for hooking up the springs (which are on back order everywhere it seems)

thanks again

WOW!

This thread is 8+ years old!

I haven't had my E93 M3 since 2010. That said, the E92 springs worked just fine, it was slightly lower in the rear but it looked awesome IMO!
