Pard Distance Controller issues during cold weather
I was wondering if it is normal to have PDC issues during really cold weather.
During really cold weather my PDC shows obstacles even though there are none. Usually, I see this if I have been to the car wash and I expect that this is due to some ice forming on the PDC heads, but in this case, the car has not been washed and I still have issues. Once it warms up, the issue will go away. I am trying to figure out if this normal or if I should be taking the car in for service.....

Mines sound like a dam ambulance at times, front and back just going in unison... At first it was just the dirt covering it but as it got colder, it just goes haywire without any visible dirt on them. It may be from a thin layer of salt along with water on a BSM car and it might have been hidden but I do have to clean them very frequently as it absolutely annoys the shit outta me...

I've been having issues with this lately too. Had the misfortune of leaving my car out during some freezing rain and the back end was completely coated in ice. Since then when I put it in reverse it acts as if there's something there when there isn't. When the car is warm however, as in coming out of the garage it's fine. Really annoying.

It's physics. If there's obstacle of any kind - it will let you know.

Yeah, it happens a lot in really cold weather. Mind you if its always the same sensor acting up it might be busted. I had to swap out a sensor on my 2014.

Yep, same problem here on cold days, especially if the bumper gets wet or after a car wash. Gets a bit annoying! I find if I park the car in a warm garage, the problem melts/goes away.
The sensors come in different colours, here's an example for my 328ix: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=66_0282 Check realoem for your particular car's model for the exact part numbers.

I noted that the sensors usually go off after washing my car, especially in colder days. Lately I dry the sensors with a microfibre after a wash and it’s been working for me so far. Also took it to my SA for a check and they replaced the PDC module, although the issue still happen after that. Leads me to believe the water behind the sensor theory makes sense. |
