Timing Chain Oil Pump Drive Chain Warranty Extension for N20/N26 in Canada?

I know our American friends are getting letters from BMWNA stating that they have extended the timing chain oil pump drive chain warranty to 7/70k. Just wondering if any Canadians have gotten letters or have any insight into this extension for us Canadians ?

From my readings, it may only be up to certain production dates. We will have to gather more information on the 2015MY vehicles which received those letters if any of those were produced after 01/2015.

BMW had made a revision to the timing chain 01/2015, therefore it shouldn't affect vehicles produced after that.

Unfortunately BMW NA is a separate from BMW Canada, since NA supposedly covers only the US and Mexico, while BMW Canada has it's own division.

I've called BMW Canada

I've had the engine replaced on my x3. It was do to the timing chain issue. We had about 82,000 km when it went. BMW did kick in some but if I was in the USA they would have covered the entire amount!

My first bmw and probably my last. This has left a sour taste and I will be telling everyone about my experiance.

Thanks for the reply/info!

If you don't mind, can you tell us how much the cost was for the engine replacement, as well as how much BMW CA chipped in?

Did you also use the Auto/Start/Stop consistently, or do you have it off at all times?

I paid 6200 to get my x3 back. BMW quoted 32000+ for the rebuilt engine and install.
I have turned the auto/start off at all time. I never seemed to remember to turn it off when first getting in lol. Just like the door locks when I get out. I just easier to reach in and hit the button that look for the key in my coat.

Ouch, sorry to hear! Sheer volume of cars sold in the states gets them the extended warranty on the guides. This is ridiculous!

Many thanks for the info/reply! Yeah, that would not be a great experience and if it happened to me, I probably wont be going back to BMW either.

BMW CA should really step up and match whatever warranty BMW NA (US and Mexico) are doing. Obviously the volume of sales (and hence timing chain issues) would be much less in Canada compared to US + Mexico, however it shouldn't mean we get less warranty coverage comparatively.
