Comfort Access

Hi Team,

Have a question around the working on BMW Comfort Access with different behavior and wanted some input based on your experience.

Two vehicle’s (2014 X3 and 2017 3 Series)

On the I-drive, under Door lock/comfort access: I changed set to unlock only driver’s door only instead of default All Doors.

On the X3, First touch of the door handle, unlock driver’s door. Second touch, unlock all doors. Great!

On the 3 Series, First touch of the door handle, unlock driver’s door. Second touch, does nothing.

I don't see further options on I-Drive

I called the BMW Genius and he says this feature does not work. When I told him it works on X3, he seemed surprised. The he said, maybe they removed it from newer models
I think he just answered without wanting to look into it further.

Thanks in advance for your support.

I don't think there is a "second touch" comfort access feature on the 3-series cars that will open drivers door on first touch and the others on second touch. In my 340 on the setting in iDrive you can open up all 4 doors by touching Pass Side door handle once. I have mine set like that. I like that on the drivers side one touch only drivers door opens... this for safety reasons [so no-one can scoot in from opposite side of car (car-jacker) while you are getting in the drivers seat]. However, I believe there is a setting to make all 4 open from drivers side also (with one touch) if you choose; but i didn't select that option in iDrive or the Key Profile.

Additionally, I think you have to change/set it in the "DRIVERS KEY PROFILE" also to set the memory side AND also the iDrive as well. If i remember correctly.... I am referring here to standard the way the car comes; however, perhaps it can be coded to do other things that I am not aware of

My F30 does not have second touch option on driver door.

From driver door it is one touch. Set in I drive as all or just driver door.

From passenger side it is all. I prefer that regardless of driver door settings.

Thanks BMW11 and 37psi for your responses.

My experience is same as you both had mentioned. Wish they allowed second touch on driver side door to unlock all doors like on my wife's x3

I'm the one usually driving my car so just unlock the driver only but at times with kids, I need the all unlock feature without using key fob or unlocking from passenger side.

what's the issue with just unlocking all the doors all the time instead of just the driver's door?

On my e90, I had it programmed to open all doors. 6 Months after warranty expired, had passenger door actuator fail and bmw quoted me nearly $1000 CAD to repair it. I ordered it on ebay from states and replaced it myself for nearly 1/4 of price.
So with my F30, why open those doors when not needed ?

Its nice to have feature and think should be configurable option in I-drive.

Fear of unwanted passengers getting on board in neighborhoods where you probably shouldn't be.

solutions:
lock the doors when you get in the car. if you're worried about people opening your doors, you'll be doing this anyway to lock the driver's side door.
don't 'comfort access' the door locks if there are people within 'getting on board' range.
don't spend time in neighborhoods you shouldn't be in.

That, unless you're driving a junker that won't say to all 'this guy has money'.
