Spotify via BT instead of USB (Connected Drive App) requirements.

Hi,

I'm using iPhone 8 and I have Spotify in Connected Drive using USB cable, works very well. What options am I missing to have it via BT (wirelessly)?

I have:

S609A - Navigation system Professional
S6AKA - Connected Drive Services
S6NSA - Convenience phone, expanded Smartphone

Car production date is 2016-06-06.

You just need to use Bluetooth audio. I have the tech package so maybe that?s why, but I thought all 3 series with navigation supported Bluetooth audio? If not that?s pretty cheesy of BMW.

I do know there is some coding available for something called ?enhanced Bluetooth? that anyone can turn on. That might enable Bluetooth audio if it doesn?t work already.

Enhanced BT is 6NS option. and can be coded easily. But unfortunately no artwork over BT.
It's only possible with NBT head unit...

I believe the OP is looking for the Apps over bluetooth option, which is where you can have smartphone apps, such as Spotify, iHeartRadio, and Pandora, fully integrated into the iDrive, over bluetooth, without needing to connect via USB cable. For example, when I get in my car (with phone w/ bluetooth turned on), I can go straight to "Media/Radio" menu option, and there is a 'Spotify' menu option. I click on it, and I have the Spotify menu, including album art, fully integrated into iDrive.

See attched photos - my phone is above the iDrive, and connected only via bluetooth. Sorry, pics are blurry, I turned off flash.

I have retrofit a NBT Evo from a F32 with a 11-16 build date, into my E93, and have bluetooth apps working. The EVO was ID5, but I coded it to use 'ID6_light', which gives you the 3 larger live tiles.

I don't know if you need to have 6AK - 'Connected Drive Services', but I think you might. If you have 6AC 'Intelligent Emergency SOS Call', and no 6AK, I think you can order 6AK from the Connected Drive Store.

Look at the screens for 'Configure Mobile Device', if you have bluetooth apps, you should see an option for 'Apps', it needs to be selected to have smartphone apps show in the idrive. I have a Samsung S7, and iHeartRadio, and Spotify show up, but Pandora does not - I don't know why. That's OK, because I like spotify MUCH better than Pandora.

@Mashman yes, that's what I'm asking about. As I mentioned I do have S6AKA Connected Drive Services I don't see the option to purchase it on the Connected Drive website, I'll have a look on the iDrive again but I don't think it's there.

How do I verify which iDrive I have exactly? I know it's not ID6 since the menu is not the tiled one but, how do I check what HW version is it?

You would have ID4, or ID5 - ID4 is EVO, but it looks like NBT with the text menus, ID5 has 6 smaller tiles, and ID6 has the 3 larger tiles. I believe for bluetooth apps you need to have ID5 or later.

Im really let down with BMW. didnt think I needed to ask in the year 2017 buying a 2017 if my android would be fully supported. Now, I do have apps.. havent even looked at spotify yet.. I mostly pod cast and that does indeed work over bluetooth fine. But I cannot send/receive texts or emails. UNBELIEVABLE.. for what its worth these are my options.

My spotify does work over bluetooth. My phone is a Samsung Sky. Nothing fancy. I hope this helps someone.
