F36 with Pro Nav, adding apple CarPlay

New F36 owner (2017 LCI)

Car has Pro Nav, but I cannot add apple CarPlay from BMWConnected as the car doesn't have extended bluetooth...

Can extended bluetooth be coded/added?

Not sure why BMW have made the decision to only offer CarPlay as wireless only, all other manufacturers have wired connection (also meaning the phone charges whilst in the car)

Even my old car (which cost £15k less than this BMW) had CarPlay and I'm missing it already

Any suggestions?

EBT can be coded.

Someone did it for me, but I know it can be done!

Interested in seeing if coded Enhanced Bluetooth allows you to purchase through the Store. My guess is it won't because the Store will do a VIN lookup and see your car VO did not include it.

Enhanced Bluetooth would not be an option that can be purchased through the Online store unfortunately.

As I suspected, even having EBT coded won't unlock the connected store app of CarPlay

Why oh why did BMW AG choose to go only wireless with CarPlay? Surely it should be the customers choice??

Even if that was the case, it would only be applicable to select 2017+ models as CarPlay requires iDrive 5.0.

If you are interested in CarPlay, we do have a hardware solution which is unveiling soon.

I'm waiting on this!

On the wireless front, it's great as you can charge wirelessly too. When I spec'd my F36 (failed purchase), it had the "Advanced Technology Pack" which included a Qi charger and CarPlay. Just place your phone on the Qi charger and the car connects by Bluetooth to CarPlay automatically. No cables, no hassle.

Out of curiosity Steve, will your solution offer wireless CarPlay?

Part of EBT on ID5/ID6 systems is 6WD wireless hotspot. You could code certain features, but car needs wireless antenna for connection.

It's actually wired. Here's a sneak peek.

I ended up downgrading from NBT EVO to go back to HU_ENTRY so I could go into test the product and and I am amazed at how much more responsive this CarPlay box is compared to BMW's factory wireless CarPlay. I have ID6 on both of my vehicles are the wireless CarPlay would sometimes lose sync on Spotify and the tracks just don't play.

We also tested it on NBT with the 8.8" screen and CarPlay looks way when it is using all dimensions of the screen.

Once this product passes our on vehicle test for about a week or so, we will be ordering our first batch and making it available on our online store

I have a 2017 LCI 4GC, it (apparently) has iDrive 6.0 (I'm new to BMW so if there is a way of confirming then please let me know!)

I'd be very interested in a solution to add CarPlay

You shouldn't need this retrofit as you should have the option to order CarPlay from the ConnectedDrive store directly off the car.

BMW don't allow wired connection, only wireless

I might try it anyway seeing as the OEM connection is the same. I only had to tap into a few wires as it stands now. Interested in this too
