Will the USA get a diesel x3?
Sorry if this has already been beaten to death. Any idea which model diesel?
Thanks!

I'm 99.99% certain the USA won't get a diesel X3. Blame VW's diesel-gate.

you think they'll start phasing out current US diesel models as well?

I called BMW USA and spoke to someone in their Customer Relations department. She put me on hold to check with a BMW Genius, then came back and said there is likely no diesel coming for the 2018 model year. She said normally by this time, such information is in their system even if production is not spun up for it yet.

I had sent a similar question to BMW USA via Facebook earlier this morning. I just got the following reply back:

If I was to speculate, I would also say probably not, as the market seems to be shifting to electric/gas hybrid.

Wonder how much $$ it costs BMW to bring a diesel over here vs a regular gas burner? And at what point does the sales volume vs profit curve cross for them?
I guess I don't see diesel taking off here in NA ever given the direction we're heading with electric and hopefully hydrogen vehicles...

Interesting in that lineup of 2019 G01 X3s for the US market is the "xDrive30d".
I'd be curious as to what that "30d" is. In Europe and here in Australia that means the 3.0l 6-cylinder B57 diesel. Whereas in the past the US market as used the moniker "28d" for the 4-cylinder N47 & B47 diesels (what we call the 20d). Does this "30d" mean that the US market will get the 6-cylinder diesel in the 2019 G01 X3? I hope you guys do because its a far better engine than the 4-cylinder diesel. Tony |

https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...71778EN/391539 on page 3, the 30d is specified as the 6-cylinder engine. A slight bummer because I was hoping for the 4-cylinder (easier DIY years down the road), but I won't complain. |
