The F90 M5 (see all details) will come fitted standard with a throaty flap-controlled exhaust system controlled by selected driving modes and also separately by the new M Sound Control button which allows independent control of exhaust flaps.

For those who desire an even more aggressive sound however, there will be an optional M Sports Exhaust System with black tips available, which comes standard on the Limited BMW M5 First Edition model. More info on the M Sports Exhaust will be forthcoming.

Now let's hear how their sounds compare!

hmmm.... sport is a nice improvement but only black tips on the sport exhaust? Not a fan of black exhaust tips.

Very nice, but no V10, lol. I'm sure Remus and Fi will open this up big time. Or Armytrix and GtHaus. SOoo many options.

Regardless if you want the true sound that some seek, the stock exhaust will not do. The M sport, meh, just almost gets it right. Mind you I did use headphones and good ones at that. Need to hear this in person of course.

Good burble sound. Stock F10 M5 does not do this. I wonder if this is due to a new feature of the ECU tune just like in the M4 GTS.

Burbles only when throttle off at low revs. MPPSK on 3/4 series has more burbles.

Great growl on both standard and sport, would be happy with either.

Sounds nice but will likely be overpriced. Wouldn't shock me to see the sports exhaust is just a couple of resonators removed along with black tips.

Exhaust note is definitely slightly different in tone vs the F10 M5, I do think they fussed with the exhaust manifold a bit to create a different sound. Who knows though, only guessing until the technical manual comes out.

I really wonder what % of the sound is synthetic (i.e. piped into the speakers) vs mechanical.

That's exactly right. ECU is programmed for controlled misfires on overrun. I know bmw and MB are doing it now. Not sure about Audi

If you want the sports exhaust just wait for the competition pack with it's upgraded exhaust. It didn't seem like all that much of an improvement

That's probably the best sounding (factory spec) BMW I've heard in a while, well done.

Next to the AMG, this isn't that impressive. The E39 V8 sounded great, Obviously with no turbo's. But if AMG can, so should BMW. My favorite M sound is the E46 M3 CSL with it's carbon intake, insane racing sound!

If ONLY talking STOCK EXHAUST, let's not even argue...AMG has won and wins again...
the tone, depth, burble, AMG is much better

With that said though, this F90 as a whole car is awesome,
As a similar platform (engine, numbers, all the new techs inside, awd), can't wait till for a proper comparison of f90 vs AMG e63s 4 matic myself, we know what the 99.8% of the youtube-loving journalists will say about the two cars...
