I have a 2013 F30 base model 328i. No navigation, voice control, etc. I decided when I bought this car to use USB music - mp3 files - and spend the money I would have spent on satellite radio on new music. I have a 32GB Sandisk UltraFit USB drive with music on it. It shuffles and starts/stops beautifully when the car is turned on and off.

PROBLEM: My control display (I don't believe it's iDrive; the owner's manual calls it control display) seems to have a mind of its own. The audio output always works correctly -- that is, mp3 playback starts correctly every time where it left off. Sometimes, when the car is started, the display will ask me to select the UltraFit USB drive, then Current Playback in order to display track info. Other times, it goes right to the current playback screen with no input from me.

Does anyone know what causes this? Or how to fix it?
