NBT EVO: ID5 to ID6

I left my car at the dealer and got 430xD F36 for a weekend. And I was surprised to see ID6 there (like new 5 series) when I have ID5 (like new 7 series). I take it they are both NBT EVO, so, upgrading should only be by doing some coding? Am I correct to think so? Cheers.

HU_NBT2 (AKA EVO) comes in a few flavors.

There is ID6 & ID6_lite; the ladder is a different skin on ID5 that can be coded.

But, i believe "skin" (which is probably right name indeed) wasn't pre-loaded with my F31. So, firmware should be somehow updated? Am I saying it right?

Also, I know with "better" cars, like 7 series, there were added new options like folded mirrors options. You can now set the car to automatically close mirrors when closing the car within iDrive.. anything like that into 3-series?

There are no hardware differences between ID5 and ID6, the changes are handled via coding. There is a hardware difference between older ID4 units, which only have 2GB of memory, VS 4GB of memory in the newer units.

Simply FDL code HMI_ID_VERSION to 'id6_light' and you will get the large active tiles.

You can code options like automatic closing mirrors - code SETTINGS_AUTOMATIC_EXT_MIRROR_FOLDING from 'nicht_aktiv' to 'aktiv' and the setting will show up in menus, but unless the car has the required hardware to execute the command, then it's simply not going to do anything.

If you do not see coding option, then you must update firmware.

You can enable many options to show on IDrive, but they will not work on cars that are not equipped with adequate hardware.

Sorry, could you please point me to an article "BMW coding for dummies"?

I wonder if I need OBD to USB or all this popular new Wi-Fi OBD will work as well?

Fxx-/Ixx-/Gxx-series Coding: Getting Started Guides, Tips, & Cheat Sheets

OBDII to USB is K+DCAN and will only work on E-series and R-series Mini. You need OBDII to RJ45 Ethernet (ie ENET).

So, I noticed that in the BMW connected app, it now says that while spotify is 'supported in all bmw series with bmw apps', pandora is only supported in '2016 and newer bmw 7 series with bmw apps option'.

Given that the 7-series is iDrive 5.0, is there a way to activate this for my 2017 340 w/ iDrive 5.0? (Similar to the skin change discussed?)

I tried coding this particular option in my car, which has the electric folding mirrors. The option shows and everything, but i can't activate it. Do i need to code something more or is this feature just not supported in my car?

So, I have a 2017 340, and if I look in ncd/cafd tool, I see id6_lite and id6 as options for the HMI_ID_VERSION setting. With the current setting being id5_plus_plus. Does this really suggest I can just change the coding to id6, or even id6_lite and gain features?

Yes, you can switch ID5++ to ID6_lite to have live tiles.

Nope. Just a slightly different skin with basically the same features.

Need Help

Hello, I have installed an NBT EVO to an friend and I saw something nice on his navigation with on another NBT EVO I can't show.
Take a look to the picture and see the NEXT TURN FLAG in red circle. Can someone tell me what needs to be coded or what has to be set in navigation settings for that flag to appear?

Thank you in advance.

You can use TM NCD / CAFD tool to compare friend and your NCD's.
