Just got a fix-it ticket for no front license plate!

I just got a fix-it ticket for having no front license plate. The meter man gave me a ticket while my car was parked in front of my house. I am wondering how do you guys put on the plates if I don't want BMW to drill holes onto my bumper.Where can I buy the brackets at?

its a fix it ticket. He put that I have to pay $100. but then on the back, it said that code 4200(a) is a fix-it ticket or what ever. I have to fix it in 21 days or else it is going to be a $100 fine.

Use some L brackets so when you drill to mount it, its on the bottomside where no one can see the holes. And once you get it fixed and checked off, you take it right back off. No holes can be see.

All of the norcal/socal guys did this when we went to bimmerfest this year to avoid front plate tickets.

I don't know how it is where you live but here in AZ you just sign the ticket saying you fixed it and mail it in.

You can pick up L brackets pretty much at any hardware store. As far as drilling holes, im sure dealership can but they will charge you an arm and a leg for labor. Just find a friend that can help you drill holes. If they have the right tools it shouldnt take them more then 10mins.

Longtran made like 6 frontplate brackets in around 10mins.

if you are too lazy to make it yourself, you can buy the skene one. It may be an expensive alternative, but its just another alternative. Many members have bought this so dont think they will run away with your money if you order

Unless you get a useless cop that is too lazy to get off his ass and go outside to check, most will go up to your car and visually make sure your front plate is on. I've even had a friend who had a cop tug on his plate to make sure it was really bolted on and not taped on like you suggested.

i dont get it? just because its mounted to the side there is no drilling?

I looked at the photo and it just seems like you used double sided tape like someone else suggest which like i said is not going to work because the cop can just rip that shit off and tell you to go back.

But if you are using another method, please share what you did.

I'm sure the ticket for lying to public officials is a fix-it too.

I'd say get over it and put the stupid plate on. Better than the headache of dealing with this shit.

There is no legal requirement that you need to bolt your license plate onto your car, per CA code. "Securely fastened" is subjective.

CA vehicle code 5201. License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging, shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible.

Knock yourself out making the argument... note that even in the junior-attorney-league, something being subjective doesn't mean it's no rule at all... it just means it's whatever the cop/judge/appeals court/supreme court says it is depending on how much you enjoy wasting time.

Tape the plate on lightly, take a picture, send in the picture saying you fixed it, then take the ugly plate off and throw it in the trunk. The front looks horrible with a U.S. plate on it. Good luck.
