Sport/Sport +/SAT

Hey all, I was wondering what the differences between Sport/Sport +/SAT was? I ask because I'm not sure and I'm looking to do coding when my cable arrives, but I'd like to know what it's all about. I have an automatic xDrive.

Here's the differences:

DVC put this together (originally posted at http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...postcount=68):

I've tested the different combinations and found the transmission and chassis info correct.

Oh! Nice! This helps for all the normal modes, but what about SAT?

SAT is nothing more than faster shifts. The transmissions across all models are the same

I guess I'm unfamiliar with nomenclature. Is SAT with the shift knob to the left? S mode?

SAT is "Sport Auto Transmission", which was an option that can be ordered from factory (at least in NA). It also comes if you order the paddle shifters as well. It's fairly easy to code as well.

What it's supposed to do is "shift faster" than the Non Sport Auto, however there has been tons of argument whether it actually shifts faster, or just altered logic/mappings. The biggest difference I felt, is that with SAT, the shifts felt "snappier" and less hesitant. It feels like the non SAT is programmed for more "economy" whereas the SAT is more "sporty". I highly recommend getting this coded or optioned from factory

I've seen people mention coding it in as well? How would I go about that?

Few ways to get coding done:

1) DIY .. see this sub forum: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=429

2) Pay someone to do it (google search should pull up results)

3) Find someone local from these forums and ask them to assist (check out the Local/Regional Sub forum secetion)
