Has any F30 caught on fire after parked?
I have seen news saying BMW caught on fire after it is parked for a while. My guess is due to poorly grounded electrical component. I was wondering if anyone know F30 also has a record of catching on fire? I park mine in my garage and I'm concerned about that. Thanks!

This seems like a really silly question to ask. Pretty sure if cars were spontaneously catching fire, everyone would know about it.
And with a 12V electrical system, a poorly grounded component isn't going to cause any fires. |

Ever touch a battery hot terminal to the body with an errant screwdriver or wrench? It's enough current to not only start a fire, it's enough to arc weld. An electrical fire in a parked car would be an extremely rare occurrence, but it could happen, especially if the circuit in question isn't fused. Nonetheless I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Cars have been catching fire for years. My boss's Volvo caught fire in the parking garage at work: does that mean that Volvos are prone to catching fire? Let's get real here.

CNN reported it is Trump's plan to get us to buy American. FoxNews said it was Clinton spreading it because she's mad at Merkel for visiting Trump.

Mine catches fire every once in a while, just put it out and clear the code. Not really a big deal.

I am sorry I posted the article. I never said I agreed with it. No ones answering the OP's question; he started the thread not me. All i didn't was point out the article.

NOTHING on a car would generate enough current with a bad ground to start a fire..... |

I've heard this story of BMWs catching fire for a few years now like the earlier poster indicated. It's pretty rare and the story was of an SAV not the F30 catching fire.

Probably not due to a bad ground. But there are places where an errant tool or other piece of metal could short from the body to a hot wire, like the starter or the jumper post under the hood, and start a fire. It would be a fluke, but it could happen. One can't dismiss the potential for a fire just because it's a 12v system. Just as with electrocution hazards it's not the voltage that you have to worry about, it's the current.
