430I GC questions
Hey everyone my lease on my 335i xdrive is almost over so I'm looking for its replacement.
After watching review videos, reading articles ECT. I need real owners opinions. Does the 2.0 have enough power for everyday use? Does it drive better than the 3series being wider or is that a gimmick? Thanks for the help. |

The N26/B48 (?) has more than enough power for everyday use. They're quicker than almost every muscle car you can think of from the '60s...
I've driven my ex's 335 and then mine. Her turbo 6 sounds amazing..but I like the looks of a wider car (mine). Mine has the 704 suspension..hers does not..so not an even comparison that way.

Enough power for daily driver and you can always get an extra 30-40whp with a quick install tune

From what I've read/seen the B48 engine in the new 330i is going to be a gem. Closed deck design, and essentially the exact same as B58 older brother (except with 2 cylinders chopped off). I would venture to guess that the tuning potential is much higher than the N20/N26 engines.
All that being said, it will be be up to you to determine what you feel is "sufficient power". Personally, I found the turbo 4cyl to be sufficient for my daily driving needs, especially since I do mostly city driving. |

My previous 428i GC was perfect for daily driving, great power all around for any situation, especially the low end torque. Awesome mileage too (at least 650km/tank with mixed city/hwy driving)
B48 engine in the 430i GC should be slightly better.

I drove the new G30 530i xDrive recently and I was super impressed with the B46/48 motor. It has more than enough power and pull to move that car along very fast. It will have no problem being more than enough for a 430i GC.
I think people tend to forget it was just a very few years ago that the lower powered N52 inline six made only 215 hp & 200 lb-ft tq @ 2,700 rpms in the 328i. My "top of the line" 2006 330i with the high output N52 makes 255 hp & only 220 lb-ft tq. I am one who wishes BMW had engineered a small displacement inline six rather than going to the four bangers, but the reality of the situation is these four bangers, the N20/26 and the B46/48, are outstanding performers. They make it hard to argue with BMW's decision to use them.

I'll chime in here. I just got a 2017 430i. I really like the B48--my last car was an Audi A3, and the 2 cars are comparable in terms of acceleration. The B48 pulls very hard to redline. It probably has a better top end than the Audi 2.0. I've also driven the B58, and while I have nothing but praise for that motor, the B48 is plenty of power for me and delivers good fuel economy.
In terms of handling, I do think there is a noticeable difference between the GC and the regular 3. I've driven both the 330 (just had a loaner for a week) and the 340, and every time I got back in my 4 series the suspension felt more planted with less body roll in the twisties. Even the steering feel is a little different than the 3 in sport mode. So as you can tell I'm very happy with my 4 series! |

Mine is not a perfect match (330e) but the combined HP is the same as for the non hybrid 330i or 430i. Mine weighs a bit more (because of the batteries) and has the same 250 HP but with more torque (310 lb ft). So as I say it is not a perfect match.
Having said that, I drive fast and I have never felt that I needed more HP. I leave it to others to say if there is enough torque in a non hybrid 248 HP 4 cylinder B48. |

I'm currently driving a 428i GC and I can tell you that I've had so much fun with this car. As a daily driver is perfect, great mileage per gallon, I'm currently waiting for my 430i GC. I've had a chance to drive a 430i and the power is much better. As mentioned test drive the GC and you'll be able to decide if it works for you.
good luck!!!
