440i GC test drive
Test drove a 4GC yesterday in Carbon Black with Oyster interior, with lots of goodies. Had my heart set on going for a part ex for my late ’14 F31 330d MPPK. The car looked gorgeous in the sunlight.
At the risk of offending forum petrolheads, the drive just didn’t do it for me. This was a delivery mileage car only. The roads were fairly busy and I never floored it. We did between 15-20 miles, mainly on B roads. Sound at start-up was great and settled nicely. Kicking down, I found the car laggy, however, and a bit underwhelming when pulling away. My F31 has adaptive suspension, which I really like, and so did the 440i but it felt much softer than mine in Comfort, which I didn't like. Sport felt stiffer though. Road noise was noticeably bad but the tyres were brand new Potenzas, which I know are shockers from previous experience. When I checked mpg, we’d done an eye popping 11mpg, which I can only out down to the fact that the car was brand new. So, disappointed overall as I really wanted to like this car, and to buy it. Will probably wait for a G20 M340d now – hope they’ll be offering the M340d in RWD?!
