Totally off topic.

Totally off topic..
but if you had the choice what would you buy?

2006 Porsche Cayman S 15k miles CLEAN.

or

2014 428i m sport 30k miles CLEAN.

reason for asking is because i was going to get the 428 but someone offered me a 06 cayman for the same price.. yes the 06 is OLD dont get me wrong. but the car still looks nice and in new condition.

i know the real answer is prob get the 428. but just figured id ask for opinions.

Porsche. But it would be a secondary car and I would have a maintenance fund of $2000 a year. If this is your primary, get the 428.

Edit: 2006 Cayman S? Are you sure about that?

Do you need an SUV or a sports coupe? You're comparing apples to walnuts.

I'd keep your lease until it's up and lease a 430i or any other coupe once your existing lease is up.

I like coupes too but it's not like this #coupelife you're obsessing over will change everything in life.

It's not worth it to get into an older/used car just for two fewer doors unless you have other (more significant) reasons for doing so IMO.

Well i need a car now as i have no car in a few weeks, its either i do the m sport 428 or the cayman.. i want the cayman.. because well.. a porsche is a porshe.. it will get more head turns then the 428 IMHO. just dont know if i can live with a 06.

Depends on price for each as well. Nearly new Cayman's seem to depreciate fairly quickly. If it's going to be a toy...and the cost is reasonable, I'd go with the Cayman S after an indy shop checks it out.

Hmm, if it was my primary driver, I would opt for the 428. If it was my secondary driver, I would opt for the cayman s.

Despite the Porsche being fairly under-driven, the fact is that you are sitting on materials and components more than a decade old. Plastics become stiff and get a yellow tint, metals may become brittle relative to the temperature conditions they were exposed to over the course of time, leather cracks, etc...If you are a true porsche enthusiast, then these things can be overlooked. If you're just looking for a cool head turning daily driver, then I'd check out some other rides like the 428i you mentioned. Have you considered a 2010 M3 or C63?

BMW.

It's not just the price of the Porsche, it's the constant annoying $$$$ upkeep. That gets old fast.

That was another thought as well.. the upkeep will be CRAZY and idk if i want to deal with a problem car.. but then again upkeep on the bmw is just as bad.

Price point for both are in the same ball park. the 428 might be abit cheaper but not by much.

Hmm, its going to be a daily driver for sure because i know me and will drive that everywhere! but as far as if it snows or bad weather.. yes i have a secondary car for that.

i HATE HATE HATE benz. so thats out the question.. the M3.. hmm i dont want 4 doors so that limits me to (an overpriced for me) M4 or a older M3. looked at the older m3.. and decided iwould rather have a 428 then M3. i just like the looks of it. most people would say get the M get the M...

Look, reasonable and safe thing to do is 428, but Porsche is just addictive to drive, and if it happens to be manual, well I'd say it's almost "now or never" type of thing.

Since you're in your 20s it boils down to this. Do you want girlfriend your age, that's very good looking, and you mom and boss will like, but ever so slightly less fun overall. Or you take your chances on more experienced woman that you first noticed when you were, well let's go with 18 . You know, the one who goes to gym and does yoga religiously and is crazy fun and classy at the same time.

Just keep in mind, you aren't committing for life with either.

Buying that Porche will probably be the biggest mistake of your life, only exceeded by NOT buying that Porche. Sometimes in life we are faced with a true no win situation, you can only loose. This IS one of those times ... so get the Porche. And regret it but regret it while driving around in your Porche. I've been flamed for saying this before but self driving cars are just around the corner which means the Insurance Companies will soon price human drivers out of the market. In any event I regret the things I didn't do much more than the things I did, my advice is buy the Porche!

When I had the cayman it was really a weekend summer 'toy' it handled great and was light and had pretty good power think it was 295hp it rode extremely rigid and had a notorious trunk clunk that porsche couldn't fix it was small I had black so it was very hard to keep clean didn't have winter tires so only used in summer it felt toot small I regretted not getting the 911 even though the mid-engine cayman handled better. it went through tires really fast the sticky pilot super sports it looked good when clean really didn't get many "head turns" think a 911 gets more head turns the cayman to the 911 is like the BMW 320 to the M4 lol. I like my 340 better because its roomier softer the power feels better and more room to store stuff and cary people, its not really a head turner either You should think about the maint costs for a porsche over 10 years old if you consider it because it is expensive to maintain after it gets older how loaded is the cayman with the 15k miles and whats the offering price ?

another thing, maybe because I am getting old lol but more advice.. you should not buy "stuff" in order to "turn peoples heads" you should buy stuff that you want and you will be happy with its not correct to "buy stuff for peoples to lust after" you are the one paying for it with hard earned money it dont matter whos head is turning its not good to go through life "wanting to make peoples head turn" concerning your possessions you shouldn't get pleasure out of peoples heads turning you should get pleasure driving it and owning it if you can really afford it; not good to buy 'over your head' and pay off and maintain so people enjoy it, you should be enjoying it not people around you. its not good to buy stuff based what people, around you and their perception. purchases should be for the buyers happiness. are you do you really want to buy that Porsche so your friend and people turn their heads? is that the basis of your decision? after you get it you will be surprised that its won't turn many heads then maybe you will want a lambo or a ferrari or get a 10k suit to turn heads and a rolex and a 10 mil House keep working hard so you have enough money turn peoples heads thru life, its really not the reason we are here for lol

Yes, im sure its a Cayman S.
Sorry, the other reply was confusing me. I thought you meant a Cayanne Turbo S. Porsche and their weird names.

Anyway, my advise still stands.

Cayman S doesn't turn heads. Not where I'm from anyway. Base 911s don't even turn heads. You need to go GT4 or Turbo to turn any heads with a Porsche. That's not why you get a Cayman S anyway. You get it because of it's amazing driving characteristics. My M3 turns more heads than a Cayman S, but you know what, I bet the Cayman S is more fun to drive.

Fully agree with this great advice , but then again, when you're in your 20s, things like quieter, more comfortable, bigger trunk, better gas millage, more practical...etc don't exactly scream "happiness" either.

Oh dont get me wrong im getting it for myself first and formost, i like how the car looks and all.. but i assumed that was given.. the head turns are more for after the fact.. you know when your parked somewhere.. or even filling gas you got someone come up to you and say.. wow man nice car! that feeling you get is.. just you know.. proud you paid for it you know. the real question is do i want to buy a car so old.. down the road ill get that lambo dont worry

Good thing i dont live in cali =P i really doubt the 428 or cayman S will turn heads like i want it.. but it will be more.. noticeable i feel like is all.
