M2 vs. 2018 F-Type 2.0-liter

Would anyone get a 4 cylinder Jaguar F-Type instead of the M2? I personally have to say the Jag looks really nice, but not familiar with the powertrain. I hear the electronics suck too... More curious on the driving experience.

I've driven the F-pace with the Ingenium 2 litre, a much nicer unit that the old 4 cylinder in the XE and it mated better with the ZF 8AT also. Sounded zingy, sweet and was impressively smooth.

I briefly tried a SC V6 F-type at a track event so hard to really compare to an M2 as a road car, but although it certainly has grip and balance the V6 didn't feel quite as agile or tactile or tied-down as the BMW and the electronics (we were in sport mode, whatever that does) were very strict so it just understeered a bit.

Looks absolutely gorgeous IMHO, and the interior is lovely. But no rear seats, small boot, significantly less performance and slightly more expensive in our market means it would have to have a magic chassis out on the road. So, yes, I think I would consider it (if not needing rear seats) subject to a long test drive, and in comparison to a Cayman.

One of my co-workers has a base 2017 F-Type. It sounds good for being the base model, looks fantastic, and the interior is really nice. I don't take delivery of my M2 until tomorrow but I wasn't blown away by the F-Type's performance. I think you would have to go with the SC V-6 model to be anywhere close, but for that money I would be going Cayman for sure.

No backseats, not really a fair comparison.

But no way in hell I'd get a 4cyl F-type. The V6 sounds wicked, but the V8s are really where it's at.
