Remote Radiator on 340i

Long story short car went in for a fog light swap and looks like dealer has replaced the fog light grill on the left hand side with a solid piece behind it.

The original piece was open. I'm guessing due to the remote radiator sitting behind it. I'm getting quite annoyed at having to go back to the dealer to have them fix their mistakes multiple times.

So my question is can I just leave it like that or will that cause problems with cooling? Picture below to show which grill I mean.

On another note I looked at realoem and it seems like there is a remote radiator on each side where the fog lights are. Is this correct? The right hand side grill though is blocked off from factory.

Would like to know about this as well and if we could remove the right side piece as well.

I don't know about fog lights cuz I don't have them, but both grills are open in front of the remote radiators on my 340. Kind of makes sense, right? I wouldn't let that slide. They should correct this for you.

Does anyone know how to remove the grills? By looking at the diagrams it appears to be clipped on so pull that out and then remove the backing plate behind?

Any DIY with pictures would be very helpful.

I note all the cars (340i) in Australia have the right hand side grill blocked off. But if there is also a radiator behind there why is it blocked off from factory?

I ran my car a little bit more aggressively today and the temperature is maybe 10 deg Celsius hotter than normal. Not full out just holding gears longer and revving higher to 5-6k.

Now running at 110 deg C or 230 deg F

If I'm not tracking my car is it worth getting it fixed? Maybe just deal with it when service due in 12k km.

So with the additional radiators but no airflow would the radiators be doing anything or would it now be as if there was no radiator there?

If I recall, only track package has extra radiator behind there, not all 340i.

We don't have a track package option in Australia. However, mine is msport, adaptive suspension, variable steering and msport brakes which minus the tyres is the track package in the US. But only one of the grills on my car is open.

Nope. My non track pack has it.

That appears to be your left hand side (as in looking at the car left). I think he was talking about the right side. Do you have an additional radiator on the right too?

This is the same location that he circled. My understanding is that all 340is have the same cooling. The f30 335 was not the same.

Thanks for posting that. I'm curious now as to why the right hand side is blocked off (in Australia) if there is indeed a radiator behind there too.

I'm guessing it makes little difference unless you are going to track your car.

Well time to eat humble pie. My dealer had a look and to my surprise there is NO remote radiator on either side.

I looked at realoem again in detail and this is what I understand
- up to feb 2016 all 340i with autos come with 2 remote radiators
- from march 2016 you get one or both depending on trim level
- from July 2016 no remote radiators!

It appears that there is less coolant hoses and much simpler pipe work the newer the car.

That's really odd.... I wonder what the reasoning is. You would think you have at least one.

I wan under the impression that the track handling package has the radiators. Does that mean that even those 340i after July 2016 with Track Handling don't have extra cooling?

Just guessing here, but maybe it's due to the new B58 engine as there is no longer an intercooler sitting in front of the main radiator, allowing it to operate more efficiently. Not sure about the oil radiator though - was this put in front of the main radiator where the intercooler used to be?

No, there is a low temp radiator sitting in front of the main, hi temp radiator. This feeds the new air/water intercooler.
The oil cooler is in the back of the engine with the oil filter.

Looking at the dates on these posts, I know I'm just a bit late to the party but maybe someone here is still interested in this topic. I have a 2018 340xi M Sport. I have an aux. radiator behind the passenger side fog light. The driver side grill is blocked. Does anyone know what this radiator is used for? The intercooler radiator is in the center, The oil cooler is located with the oil filter. Is this a transmission cooler? thanks all

According to this it's a 'remote radiator', part of the cooling system.
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...MW-340iX&mg=17
Also known as the external radiator, according to this:
