New Car Day - F32 435i

This past Saturday I picked up my second F-chassis BMW, a 2014 435i Coupe!

I currently have an F22 228i and e36 M3. My wife and I purchased the 228i new in 2014 and the M3 six years ago.

My M3 was my first BMW. The e36 M3 was a car I had long forgot about, coming out when I was in middle school. I had a teacher who received a 1995 Dakar Yellow M3 from her boyfriend. I remember reading how fast it was at the time and how well it handled. I forgot about it after the e46 M3 came out when I was in HS. Fast forward over 15 years later and a family member showed up to a party in an e36 M3 and it revived old memories. So I purchased an M3 somewhat on a whim. It has been a fantastic car to own and a gateway drug to the BMW addiction. Sadly, this car will be sold in short time. Can't keep 'em all and all good things must come to an end.

Our 228i has been fantastic. We love that car and it is my wife's daily. It's our first new car we've purchased together and is a spiritual successor to the e36 M3 in many ways.

A couple photos from the day we bought the 228i:

So the time came to consider a replacement to my M3. While I love the 2-series, I couldn't justify having a second nearly identical 2er in the garage. I love the e92 M3 but they are beginning to get a little older in age, can be gas hogs, and can be excessive on maintenance/repair costs. 4-doors are practically never an option except for e34s, e39 M5s, and 6GCs.

So I turned to the 4-series. At 6'3" it fits me well. I was really hoping to like the 428i however after a spirited test drive, it left me ambivalent. I didn't love it. But I didn't hate it. It was just another good BMW. It handled great but it lacked charisma and or a proverbial 'chip on its shoulder' like the e36 M3 (and even 228i) has.

Enter the 435i. I've driven plenty of N54/N55-powered BMWs so I knew what to expect. But it really transformed the 4-series in my opinion. The snarl and attitude it gives makes me not feel guilty about moving on from the e36 M3.

So now we have two, 2014 MY alpine white on black BMW coupes!

I like to take photos so I'm sure I'll create a photo thread when I have the time to do a formal shoot of it. Hopefully I can do so before I sell the M3. I envision a cool 2, 3, and 4 group shot.

Thanks all! Glad you like the M3. It'll definitely be missed since you don't see very many clean e36s remaining. I've had it for six years and 60,000 miles so I'd say it's time to move on and let another enthusiast enjoy it. I may regret selling it but you can't keep them all.

Have you had any mechanical/engine problems with the car so far? I'm thinking about purchasing the same car but had some concerns. The one I will purchase is a 2014 M Sport 6MT with 21,xxx miles.

I'm only one month into ownership and I don't drive it often so I'm not an accurate reflection of reliability. I've had no issues thus far. I was willing to go up to 35,000 miles for the right CPO at the right price. I wouldn't be afraid of the N55. It's a well-documented motor that has been in everything from the 135i (2012) up until the 440i.

The biggest issue I've routinely seen on the N55 is an electrical water pump failure around 30,000 miles. So that is in the back of my mind. Aside from that, I have no worries about the car.

Thank you! Indeed. Believe me, my collection would be much more extensive if I had the space.

I already did. I sold it less than a week after I got the 435i. I had a fellow BMWCCA member lined up to buy it for nearly 3 years. Ever since he first saw it at a CCA cruise he always asked if I was interested in selling. He essentially had first right of ownership after a family member.

At least it stayed within the CCA family!

Good to hear.

I'd rather have an E36 or E46 M3 any day of the week. I have a 01 330Ci. It's awesome but I'm looking for an M3 now. Kids and their toys!!

Looks good! Love the old M3s and all.. but sometimes new tech is just so alluring!! I love the early 2000s BMWs but the Bluetooth and all this new tech has pulled me away from it and I can't say I'm disappointed!

Congratz man, a F32 is more better than every 3, classic cars not mentioned.
