I've read a lot of post on steering rack problems. I take it this is one of the common problems? Ive only had my car a month but previous to this car I had a 2012 320D. The 320 did have the rack problem so I know what to listen for and I also know how much it is to fix. So far my 335 is ok but I'm really paranoid it's going to start knocking. I have the BMW guarantee till December so if it's going to fail hopefully it will be before then! Really I'd like to know how common this problem is? Is it just luck if it happens or is it a matter of time? Is it more common in certain models or any f30? Has this be recognised by BMW as a problem? Cheers

I've never read anything about the rack itself. The rack does make an odd noise in cold start when it's really cold outside, but that's about it.

You're probably right. The 320 I had gave me a lot of stress, I guess there's no reason this one will be the same.

dont worry about it. I have a 2011 5 series (first year, but not an early model) and I have absolutely zero issues with the steering at 75k miles. zero issues with the whole car in general to be honest.

since the f30 came out after the f10, I am sure you have even less chances of the power steering causing issues. dont worry about it.
