M2 vs M3
I spoke to my dealer today about a trade-in offer for my car, and it looks like I might be better off leasing my M2 (payments are going to be a shade cheaper).
For the spec I want, I'm going to be $20/month off an M3 Competition package... which is sorely tempting. (Both leases are circa $930/month). What would you guys do, especially considering this will be my dd? |

You need to open Excel and crunch the numbers for yourself. It's unlikely it benefits you to lease at current rates for even a little lower of a payment.
If you are dead set on leasing for certain reasons, then sure. Can't help you with the M2 vs M3 though, sorry. |

$930/mo is good for a $75k M3 ZCP lease, not for a $55-60k M2.
Finance the M2. You'll be happy.

do you have a need to carry people? adults vs kids?
is all out speed most important to you? or handling and engagement? i've had both the F80 and now, F87. being a track rat now, the F87 checks all the boxes for me. back seats are plenty roomy for my kids.

Leasing the M2 is the worst thing you can do. Does it make any sense as to why the M2 is 20$ cheaper a month but 15-20k cheaper msrp? It's cause the rates are so bad. They don't want them all over dealer lots in 3 years selling a bunch of them used killing the value so they want people to finance them.
If I were you I would strongly consider financing the car. You'll be surprised at how close the numbers will be monthly and you'll own the car. Just my opinion though. Good luck!! Oh and M2 vs M3..... you want more speed? Faster straight line acceleration? M3. You want more fun factor, more nimble, better handling? M2 (imo) |

Finances aside you can figure that out. Pretty simple - more highway driving M3 more B road twisties or track days M2. Just depends on how you plan to use the car don't over complicate matters.

I would get the M2, without making any comments about finances. I think it's an awesome DD. My kids love it. I chose my M2. i didn't settle for it. It was a car I wanted.
I had a short-lived affair with a gorgeous (yet badly abused and broken) Individual M4 and after having my M2, not one day have I thought, I should've gotten another M4 instead of the M2. There is a mad grin on my face every time I drive the M2. The whole time. Then again what does it matter what I did or would do? It has no bearing on you, OP. So here are some things to consider that might be applicable or help make the decision. I hope i5 helps. At the end of the day, get the car that will bring you the most joy, whatever that is to you. M3 has more doors, probably a bigger trunk, more leather in more places, more technology, and is a totally capable street and track car. It is a great looking car. Can't go wrong. M2 is the hooligan. It is setup with lower gearing (so higher speeds are in higher rpm), and has less overall power, so you get to wring out the engine more and use the range of gears in more situations. You feel the speed more at higher speeds, yet it is still stable like any good solid BMW should be at speed. If you love driving and love corner speed and technical driving and road courses and driver focused car rather than the stop light drag races and outright acceleration and GT style driving at high speeds and overall "luxury," then you will fit better with an M2. Chances are, if you already know the above about yourself, you would not be asking this question. You'd be on the way to the dealer to sign for that M2 already.. If you still have to ask, and wonder if you would miss the leather dash (optional on F80 but well worth it), HUD or M mirrors or whatever, then I would say go and see the F80 ZCP. Drive it. Sit in it a while. If you find it hard to give that stuff up for more outright fun, get the M3. |

Are you really asking which car to get? When one is $15k more AND IS THE SAME PAYMENT?
I'm not sure what the question is here. Alas, I'll give you some fatherly advice... Ask how much the M2 is if you finance it. Make sure he gives you a good rate and or get a competitive bid on the finance. Then buy the M2 and in 3 years sell it for $8k more than you owe on it. And send me some of that cash and a written thank you.
