Curious to see if anyone has or knows someone who has an F30 335i with >80K miles, and how it's holding up so far..

I have a fully loaded 335i at 85k.

So far I had to change the indicators in the mirrors, a couple of iso-fix covers on the back seat, the fuel cap cover broke, the left electrical window motor broke, the valve spring in the exhaust disintegrated and a new engine and automatic gearbox at 70k miles.

A new engine and gearbox.....? Did you have extended warranty to cover those?

No extended warranty but they still covered it. My car is one of the very first F30s and it was preowned by BMW so that might have influenced their willingness to cover it.

Did the tech tell u what went wrong with the engine and transmission? Was the engine damaged due to timing chain issue?

The crank shaft bearings gave up and moved in fragments to the oil filter. But no idea of the root cause. The transmission was collateral damage.

If it was pre-owned by BMW and one of the first ever built, I wonder if it was a press pool car and was, *ahem*, "test driven" by a bunch of journalists/blogs/magazines etc and had a rough start to life.

That, or BMW wants to see why a N55 needed replacing so early.

86.5K on my loaded Sportline. Outside of the squeaking rear pads (dealer shaved the edges to solve) and a burned out right brake light, its been solid so far.

I have a 328i with 60k miles, and I think these two things are imminent. I can hear a noise when opening or closing the windows that sounds like something is about to break, and my exhaust has developed an annoying rattle upon cold start, which after some online searching, seems to be because of a kaput exhaust valve spring.

I don't think the N55 has timing chain issues. That's for the N20 engine.

Good to hear that nothing major is breaking down. Does everyone have extended warranty? I have mine extended till 75K miles or 7 years of ownership.

According to the options list it was not a press car but a "dealer presentation car". Thats the type that is introduced for the dealers before it actually is on sale. Anyway. I am happy with the solution and the new engine feels more powerful than the old one. A dyno test also showed it beeing slightly more powerful

Hmm - had the car in for normal oil service today and it turned out that I need a new condenser for the air condition. So just another part added to the list of broken stuff.

I'm at 75,000 miles and I bought mine CPO at 32,000 miles, with a build date of 07/12.

So far, I've had:

- Changed ball joints/bushings as they creaked
- Eccentric camshaft servomotor changed
- Thermostat

I go to track days pretty occasionally, it's been fairly solid so far. I change my oil every 3500-5000 miles depending on how hard I drive the car, or if it's just highway.

Those were probably the ones they used and let the dealers race the E90s with professional drivers to show the power of the N20 over the N52..
