F31 roof rail question
We carry a 85lb 16' kayak. This is the first summer with it on the BMW. We have a nice Thule rack with Whispbar rails. Works great - previous used it with different feet on out VW Sportwagon. The rails are raised on the VW, so I could run the tie downs under the rails - can't do that on the flush mounted rails on the BMW. Does anyone make any nice brackets (aluminum blocks?) that I can clamp on to the rails and run a strap through it? Suggestions welcome (I would rather put the straps to the rails instead of the Whispbar's, just as an additional safety measure). I attached an image of the VW for reference...

I just ordered a set of Thule cross bars and kit for my 328d. Having flush rails does limit your options and I have no idea how to run strings/tie-down latches because I'm only going to carry a cargo box up there. I have an SUV for everything else :-)

Looking at Thule, it seems they have a system for kayaks that doesn't have extra tie downs for the roof rails, but looks pretty secure.
