Top Speed?

Found a place to legally drive my car at top speed (driving a 328i rwd), however, after flooring at 132 mph, the car would not speed up. I was wondering why and if anybody has encountered this issue.

Almost everyone will encounter this issue, most 3er's are electronically limited to 135 MPH. To get the higher speed limit of 155 MPH I had to order the Track Package equipped with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires which have a top rated speed of ... I think its 186 MPH.

My F31 MSport has the increased speed noted on the window sticker. It is a 'package'.

If the car came with all season tires from the factory it will be limited to 130

155 (ish) is where my '14 328d shuts off at, but it's a sport line that had the performance all seasons

Unfortunately the limiter is set at the factory. New tires won't change the setting

^this. The limiter is "hard set" at the factory, it can't even be re-coded to 155. It has to come from the factory with the staggered high performance summer tires. You're stuck with 130.

The car has to be ordered from the factory with "Staggered Wheels with Summer Tires" which automatically adds the "804 High Speed Limiter" option. this is more commonly found with M-Sport models but could be on any model. Additionally, it is more common on RWD when originally ordered as a 19" wheel set up however it can be ordered with 18" wheels. My RWD had the 19" staggered wheel setup with the 155 MPH Limiter.

NOTE: the higher speed has a softer "Z" rated tire which need to be changed more often! sometimes as soon as 20K miles, so be careful what you wish for!

Where is this information found? I did not see on the Dinan website, just curious.

20k miles is good wear length. The new Mich PS4S come with 30k mile warranty, so it will be interesting to see if they can truly last that long.

Yes, some Dinan tunes remove top govenor.

Ah, yes. I was thinking of "traditional" coding that everyone and their grandmother is doing these days, not Dinan products.

My 420d goes 150mph (240km/h) without any problems, very easy. You should ask official dealer to fix max speed to match factory data (as in brochure).

328i should be limited at 155mph (250km/h)

So... To "unlock" top speed, do I need a specific tuning company's tune or code, or is it something I can have coded by a local person?

You'd have to buy a specific Dinan product.

You do not need Dinan to do this. Any flash tune can achieve removing the top speed limiter

Out of curiosity, where is this location? I've been looking to test this on my car given the 335xi Tune
