Oil temps all over the place

19000 miles will bounce between this and 250. I run in sport 99% of the time. Any ideas? oil level is good

It is good that it is all over the place. That means it's an actual gauge giving you an actual reading. When I am in comfort it does not get even close to 250 on cooler days. One warmer days it might be close. As soon as I go to sport+ it hangs around 250 if I push the car. If not, then it does not get too close to 250.

Maybe the thermostat is going South and causing the oil temperature variation.

I just got a notice from BMW that the warranty on the thermostat has been extended to 100k on my 2013 CPO 328i.

There must have been problems with the stat to generate this advisory.

Working as intended. The engine runs cooler under heavier loads for performance, warmer under lighter loads for efficiency.

See post #13. If you're going over 240 I'd be concerned. I'm pretty sure mine's never gone above ~230 even on days when the weather's over 115F.

Mine rises from cold and then stays put. I think you need to call in to your SA, maybe the sensor is shot/going bad.

oil temps become slightly less stable when you have a couple thousand miles on your oil change. it begins to degrade.

if you are worried about oil temps, remove your plastic engine cover + insulation and use 5w40 oil. the goal is to keep temps below 250 under all conditions. i do this and it works well for me.
