Just purchased my first BMW.

2013 328i xDrive

28k Miles
Cold weather package
$ 20k

I thought it was a pretty good deal so I jumped on it. One owner, regular maint. has been done ect. What are some things you didn't consider when you first got your BMW? I'm a HVAC Tech by trade so I'm pretty mechanically inclined, ordered the Bentley shop manual so I can do basic maintenance myself.

First thing im doing is ditching the run flats.

welcome and congrats !!

Am I correct in seeing those are halogen lights? I think a good mod would be to swap them out with LED/Xenon/Aftermarket setup. I personally have the halogen setup and really not a fan of them.

Depending on how technical you are, coding would also be a logical next step.... just increases the usability of the car a bit (e.g. you can code things like: remember last setting for Auto Start/Stop, video playback in motion, enhanced bluetooth with audio streaming, bypass idrive disclaimers, digital speedo, window closing with fob key, etc.). I am sure you can find someone local to do this for you as well.

I am not sure about the window tinting laws in North Carolina (or how strictly enforced the laws are), but I would recommend a tint as well (I personally have 50% front and 30% rear but would recommend something darker like a 30% front and 15% rear)

You should also check out Obert's build thread, he has some awesome good pictures and info.

xDrive models come with base suspension. It's perfectly fine for some but body roll and "floating" symptoms cause others to upgrade springs, springs +shocks, or install coilovers. No need to do anything just yet. Suspension forum has many threads discussing pros and cons of each option.

xDrive suspension is notoriously tall and unsporty. Swap that out if you are so inclined!

Congrats and welcome. HPDE should be on your list of things to do, maybe I'll see you there.

Congrats, and welcome.

I'd have a reputable shop flush all the fluids in the car for fresh fluid - transmission, differential, and so on.

Order some good detailing supplies, and give it a thorough detail inside and out. Here's our detailing forum.

Yes they are halogens, ive been browsing some LED replacements and it seems real easy to DIY.

Im pretty technical but the thought of bricking my car makes me not want to do that myself. I do want all of those things you mentioned though.

35% is the tint law in NC if im not mistaken. I feel like 15 would get me pulled, they are pretty anal about that stuff around here.

Do i have to get into the coding ro be able to turn off that annoying service past due reminder?? I actually got that deal at carmax believe it or not and they did a oil change ect beforehand. I can do everything else myself, but I suspect that unless you take it to a BMW dealer to have them service it the reminder will keep coming up unless you do something with the code?? Hows that work?

For the oil service reminder you can reset it by checking out this video:

If it's the vehicle service check reminder I think that needs to be reset by the dealer or using the Rheingold ISTA program and an ENET cable (which you can get by doing some searches on the forum here and amazon, respectively).

The thing that bugs me most about my wife's 328xd is the non-sports seats.
Look around (in junk yards probably) for sport seats in the correct color and with the seat heaters. (Of course, you may like the non-sport seats, so sit in a sports seat before you decide.)

I'm kicking myself for not learning to code two years ago. It's very easy.

That you can do in iDrive.
