Good deal for CPO 2014 328i Sedan (RWD, Stick, M Package)?

The car is Black (Red Interior), has RWD, Stick, M Package/suspension, Harmon Kardon Stereo, Moonroof, heated power seats..
It's certified (Warranty good for 3 more years, up to 100k miles) Currently has 35k miles.

They are asking just under 27k (Philly Area)

This will be my first BMW.. Coming from an 09 Front Wheel Drive Malibu! (Yuck)
I test drove a new MK7 Golf GTI Sport stick (awesome by the way, but I want to get back in a RWD car plus it's a bit young for me being 32), Mazda 6 Stick (Same reasons as above.. nice car, underpowered though)..

I have a Model 3 Tesla on order but I'm having second thoughts about being an early adopter. I figure I'll get something fun to hold me over for 5 years and see what's out then. If I get this car I'd cancel that order.

Opinions on this deal? Any reliability concerns?

Thanks all

First of all, I really like the options this car has. Nice find. Good color combo, RWD, sport, manual trans - very nice.

It's fair. Being that is a something of a rare spec with RWD and stick, they should be pretty eager to unload it if you don't reveal you are excited about that combo specifically. I wouldn't expect this to fly off the lot in your area, unless the right buyer comes looking for it.

I would try to get them down another $500 to 2k depending on how eager they are. Values all seam in the $24k to 27K range, but exact spec and condition can swing that a bit.

Sounds like a good car & deal, go for it. You won't find too many other well-specced RWD 6MT cars in the Philadelphia area

Thanks for the responses.. I should also bring up another point.. I believe the new gen is coming out as a 2018... Does that mean they will have great deals on left over 2016s or 17s ? I'd def look for one specd very similarly..
This car probably was about 40g new... I wonder what kind of deals would come up?

I would pass on the deal personally. I wouldn't pay more than 25 for a 3 year old 328 with that milage. And you can easily get a CPO M235i for around 34-35k with that mileage, I know its more expensive but I figured it's the type of sports car you're looking for

I think I paid 21k for my CPO e90 328i when it was about 2 years old at 18k miles.

YMMV though, deals can be much more aggressive in LA than Philly.

The next 3er, the G20, will not be out until calendar year 2018 as a 2019 model year.

I think the car you're looking at sounds good. Be sure to negotiate another couple of thousand off that asking price. If you wanna post a link we can take a look at it for you and see if there are any obvious red flags.

I do need room for 4 adults realistically... That's why I was looking at this car specifically.. I like the MPG also, 240 horse is most likely enough for me. But I'm thinking you're right in that the car should be 25g and not 27g.. their listing has it at almost 28 as it is. I'm going to tell him 25 is where I need to be after looking at a few others in the area to see if it's realistic. There are plenty of automatic 4wds around, so I'll look at what those are going for also and take 2g from that since they always list high.

The all wheel drive is only offered with manual transmission on the largest engine being the 335/340 variant. 328 was not offered in xdrive and manual therefore rwd is your only option for a manual with that engine.

Guess I am wrong based off other posts but I would say its a fair deal for those specs.
Sure you could get a CPO 335i for cheaper but it wont have m-sport, red leather, etc. Those are high dollar items and likely the reason why the dealer is pricing it that way.

As info, I bought my 2013 328i as CPO back in august. Its an m-sport, moonroof, red leather, nav, lighting package, and auto. Sticker was 49K brand new with all the options..got it for 28K with 32,000 miles on the clock. Paid $2150 extra (if i recall correctly) for an added year of warranty so im covered until July 2020. I was able to bring the price down only by like $500 but I did get them to throw in free OEM gloss black kidney grills.

Overall, I could have likely got a better deal if I kept looking around BUT it was exactly the combo I wanted (black exterior with red interior) with all the features I wanted (less a manual transmission). On top of that, my current car was totaled so I was kinda in a rush to pick something up.

Good luck, let us know how it goes. Manuals are rare and if you like driving a stick, I would jump on it.

Yeah, finding a RWD manual in the North East is quite a challenge - LA is probably the easiest place, so that certainly is a factor. I wouldn't let it slip by, just work the price a little more. Good luck.

So I got them down to 26G.. That sounds like the lowest they will go.

Here are some pictures, and I also attached the options sheet..

I told them I didn't want to get screwed on my Malibu also (I Won't accept less than 4g for it.. It's paid off, so I don't mind selling it myself)

The deal will happen at 5 today if you guys approve =)

Can someone confirm these wheels are stock?
Also the blacked out grill and logo on the back.. Hopefully all stock? I don't want it modified in any way..

Thanks

Those are the stock 400m wheels. Looks like previous owner painted them black. They are missing the M sticker/logo, i'd tell the dealer that you want that added back on.

Also, doesnt look like the m-sport kidney grill. Looks like a lux grill (maybe im wrong) painted flat black with plasti dip. I'd ask for an OEM gloss black grill. Tell them you will install it yourself and they might give it to you.

While you are at it, ask for an OEM M performance spoiler as well

Nice car. My 2 cents: Check the 'in-service' date of the car. CPO cert only adds 2yrs to the original 4yrs warranty. So if the 'in service' date was ..say December 2012 (for model year 2013), then the original warranty ended December 2016 and you get 2yrs from THAT point..so you'd get until December 2018. The mileage warranty also changes..so double check those 2 specifics. I ran into this on my wife's X3...so her truck, even though CPOd, the warranty is only good for 1yr and x miles.

Non run-flat tires...nice. Double check the tread depth. Once again, the dealers pass cars that meet the minimum requirements in all areas. Our truck has 6/32 and 7/32" depth. Good for CPO but they'll only last maybe a year. Also check the i-Drive and see where the brake wear is in terms of miles left.

The black 328i badge is aftermarket. You can request that they swap it for the original chrome version if you want. They're cheap (~$30). The flat black grill doesn't look right on a gloss black car (as another poster pointed out).

Good luck!

I kind of like the black badge.. I just hope nothing else of consequence was modified..

Are you sure about the grill? I'm bringing that up too..

The in service date was March 20, 2014.. so 3 more years on the coverage without buying any additional..

Thanks for these good points about the brakes, etc.,

Having many second thoughts now and might not go through with it.. Concerned with reliability issues, etc. post 2020. Apparently the CPO doesn't cover suspension parts either?

thats a great find, I would hop on before someone else grabs it.

as for reliability, the N20 seems to have issues related to BMW's infrequent oil service recommendations. I recommend you change oil every 5000 miles with 5w40 for the longevity of the motor.

Seems like a good deal to me if it is the set of options you want. I would only wait if you are willing to buy much further away and drive/ship it back.

I'm going to back off on this one. I need to cool my jets and test drive more cars before making a rash decision.

Thanks for the info though.

I'll find another somewhere eventually. I wish it was 4 years of coverage and not 3. I'm just too worried about a 2500+ dollar repair coming up in those 4th and 5th years that I planned on owning the car. With any other car they give you 5 yr on the powertrain at least when you buy new..

Anyway I need to wait on this one.

if you want something long lasting and reliable, take a look into the n52 engine.
