Alternative to Welding Tips
Hi guys,
I have the M performance steel tips which are secured by tightening a hex screw. Given how easy it is to steal these, and how much they cost to replace, I want to secure them better (or at least make it really difficult to take off). I'd still like to be able to take them off at some point so want to avoid welding them in. Has anyone done something similar? I was thinking of using a metal to metal glue, but not sure how i will be able to take them off in the future. Ideally, something with a solvent that loosens the glue would be perfect. Thanks! |

I have the black painted steel tips, probably secured the same way with a hex screw. Haven't been stolen this far, I wouldn't worry too much about it since you want to be able to remove them.

I haven't seen the screw personally but perhaps you could use some Loctite? I wouldn't use too much though

This is probably your best (read easiest) option if you can get the right size screw - security torx screw available pretty much anywhere, Amazon included. It's like a hex screw but with a bump in the middle so you need a hollow bit to remove it. Not as secure as welding, but not as permanent either.
I find with most of these things sorts of things you don't need impenetrable defenses, just as effective if you make it more annoying and take an extra few minutes to mess around with. Just like bike locks they're all breakable, but best move on and find the easiest / quickest one to steal. |

It is best to just install them as designed. If you make them harder to remove, then anyone who tries to make the tips their own, will, most likely, take it out on your car that they were unable to remove the tips (at greater expense to you) . I have not seen any reports (not that there are not any) of people taking the exhaust tips, so I don't think this is a major issue (unless it is a NY thing).
