2017 340i - My new ride

My lease on my 2014 428i was coming due so I swapped her for this beauty. 2017 Mineral Gray 340i M-Sport. Car has the 403 style 19"s which I absolutely love. The interior is black sensatec w/ aluminum hex trim (I'll post some pics of the interior later). The car has nav w/ apple car play which I'll admit is pretty cool even though I'm not the type that orders these cars for the technology. And lastly, comfort access makes my life so much easier. (Didn't have that option on my 4 series).

The one downside is I'm coming from a 6spd transmission. Oh well, I'll have this for 3 years and maybe I'll opt to go back when the lease is up.

For now I am breaking her in. I already unplugged the exhaust valve so it stays open 24/7 (sounds much better in comfort mode and I don't have to switch it to sport 10x a day). My plan is to order jb+ in a week or two. Since I'm leasing this ride, I like the flexiblity of being able to simply unplug before taking the car in for service.

Some things I've noticed so far: The led turn signals look MUCH cleaner than the halogen bulbs my 428i had. Also the LED tail lights are SO much brighter which is helpful at night when reversing/parking. One thing I find odd is that the xenon projectors in my 4 series turned w/ my steering wheel while the 340i LED's don't. Not a huge deal, but while I'm being picky, definitely something I'll miss.

And here's some iPhone pics from yesterday. Will post more soon...

Re: LED HEADLIGHTS in order for the headlights to move you need to have ADAPTIVE LEDS. You have standard bi-LEDs. I'll miss the ADAPTIVE part of headlights when I get my 2018 LCI 4 series GC, but I wasn't going to pay an extra $2,100.00 for that option. Car looks great MG my favorite color no doubt. Congrats.

Nice Ride!! Still waiting for my baby to arrive!! I payed for the lighting package. Didn't really need it but its cool to have none the less. Which is leading to my next question. Why the hell does a 2017 Corolla LE have lane departure warning, Radar Cruise Control, Auto Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, and Auto High Beams Standard. And you have to pay to option that in on almost every BMW.

Well, the other point of view is that I am glad it is optional so I can option a car the way I want it without having to pay extra for features I don't want.

If they were standard, the base price would just be higher, so it's not like you are getting a double bleeding of your pocket.

You are right, though, that BMW doesn't offer the value of other mainline models, and it's not like they are as high end as they used to be in comparison.

Gotchya. What's odd is that I ordered my 428i bare bones (w/ only the M-sport package) and it had the turning headlights.

On a separate note, what's everyone's opinion on the length of time one should go before installing jb+? I know BMW recommends a 1200 mile break in period. Yesterday I bumped into a gentlemen in my Home Depot parking lot with a beautiful 6speed M2. He mentioned to me that the car maxed out at 5rpm for the first 1000 miles or so... I found that interesting since this forum can't seem to agree if the break in period is a real thing!

Nice ride! The new B58 engines are incredible. Like you, I am targeting mods that are either covered under warranty or easily reversible. I installed a JB+ on my 2017 340i at around 1500 miles. It's a nice power bump and roughly on par with the MPPSK power levels. I am waiting on the JB4 issues to be ironed out before going further down that path. Also, the same week I installed a BMS intake, BMS exhaust tips, wheel spacers, and Dinan lowering springs. Another "mod" you should consider is coding via e-sys. There are a handful of options you can unlock by coding.

Interesting! What are you thinking about having done via coding?
Also I was thinking about spacers too. Do you have any pics of before and after? This might be a no0b question but would spacers affect alignment or tire wear at all?

It's really simple. Start the car up and put it in sport mode. Once the engine is warm rev it a few times above 3k. Check the left exhaust pipe with a flashlight to ensure the valve is open. Turn the car off and then pull the plug that's on the underside of the left tail pipe.

This sticky thread is pretty helpful and provides some good pics.

Coding lets you customize certain features that are not accessible through the iDrive interface, such as lighting, un/locking, camera, instrument cluster, iDrive functions, etc. Check out the coding forum here and on the other popular F30 forums.

As for the spacers, I had some 12mm front and 15mm rear spacers that I used on my old 135i that bolted up. It is about as wide as you can go. I would have to go with something like a 10mm front and 12mm rear if you plan to run wider tires. Spacers do not effect your alignment. One of the downsides is slightly reduced turning radius, but you will likely never notice. I do not have any profile pics showing the spacers. I will have to take some later this week.
