The result is a bit equivocal, but the M2 wins over the RS.

More importantly, does it matter? There's room for both, and both have their charms...

I've noticed over the past few years that Audi and MB cars have a decent amount more power than the comparable BMW models. Yet the BMWs almost always outshine both. The M2 has like 370hp, and the TTRS 400hp, yet there is the win for BMW. I think both are cool but I'm partial to the M2.

I wonder how good the MT is in the RS. Oops, never mind.

Not in every case. But keep in mind that bmw does underrate the HP and Tq figures in pretty much all their cars. Mostly the M cars.

Those wheels have been the biggest point of contention in the Audi TTRS forums. Almost deserves a thread of its own on how ugly the wheels are. There has been so much backlash against them (at least on forums, where a large amount of enthusiasts hang out, of course).

I'm not saying these large companies need to listen what a bunch of forum posters say, but after the F80/82 ZCP wheels, which many did not like, would it be so hard for designers to at least go to these car forums and just read what the consensus is? Do some due diligence and just check out what car lovers have to say? I get it, once a design is out, it is out. And there is the issue of not revealing too much to the general public. But some designs (not just wheels) are blatantly ugly, almost objectively ugly, yet they are still released without a blink of an eye.

As BMW refuses to state the actual hp and tq the number comparisons are skewed. The M2 has 400hp at the crank easy. Plus it looks sooooo much better imo and this from a guy who likes audi's. Just now that I have an M2 i realize I really didn't care for all that weight hanging over the front. Most have it (my B8 S4 did) not sure if the TTRS does but the 50/50 distribution in the M feels nice.

I agree, except for the traditional TT fender design, which I wish they molded into the body a little more, I think it is a cool looking car. Love the front especially.

One thing I really admire about BMW (versus Audi) is that they continue to use aggressive, bespoke body panels for their M cars. The TTRS seems to be the same body as the regular TT, except for the spoiler and front bumper...The easy way out...

The M2 only shares the roof of the 2 series if I'm not mistaken.

Hence why the 437 M wheels are now available on the ZCP

I did not know that! Thanks... The 437M are some of the best stock wheels BMW has come up with IMO.

Good they have the option now!

Audi has done an amazing job with that interior...makes the M2 interior look like a Ford Focus.

Interior almost made me get into a tts before finding an allocation for the m2. It's funny that it was the one thing that blew me away at the NY auto show.

There's another important issue at play here: What is the cost of an M2 versus a TT RS?

If a stripped M2 is $52k, we can anticipate a stripped TT RS to run somewhere between $65-70k.

As cool as the TT RS might be, I'm not plunking down RS level dough for a car.

And then there's the scarcity of the RS as well. It may be harder to find than an M2 by a significant factor.

I got lucky, and it took me less than a day to find an M2 at MSRP. I doubt that will happen with the RS. . . ever.

Never thought I'd say this, but the M2 might be a bargain, especially if it holds its value anywhere close to how the 1M held its value.

All true, but this is really comparing to the wrong car... The RS3 is the price point competitor and with the same motor. I have my flights bought for Munich already for next year assuming I get an M2 allocation, and if not, Inglostat is just down the road

All you need to read about the M2:

"And yet, all of this fine, seven outta ten stuff melds together in the most approachable, involving M car of its generation. ... It brandishes more personality than the current M3 and M5 combined."

All you need to read about the TT RS:

"It’s somehow less disappointing that the Audi has numb steering and over-servoed brakes, that it’s not particularly entertaining beyond the eye-drying quantity of its performance. Because it’s a TT. Be honest, it’s never the sharpest tool in the box, the TT. ... Awkwardly, it’s still not got as sparkling a chassis as a fast Golf, with which it shares so much engineering. Weird."

Now go ahead and spin the above as much as you want. That's what forums are all about.

And feel free to post fake versions of all this to Facebook if you think they're truth-y enough.

Pretty sure the doors are also unchanged.
It seems that M GmbH is forbidden to change the doors on any AG car.

This is glaringly obvious when you look at the F80 rear fenders.
The rear doors are unchanged.
And that forced the M designers to "pry out" the leading edges of the rear fenders to clear the wider rear track.
The M4 doesn't have this issue because the doors are far enough in front of the rear fenders that the body could be flared properly.

If it had been OK to modify the F80 doors, they would have been more smoothly flared into the wider rear fenders.
That's the 2nd worst design problem with the current M3 IMHO (the headlights-stuck-to-grille being #1, even after the LCI.)

+1

It is not an alternative to the M2 for me because no manual is offered. Also for 2017, no more Audi S4 manual in the US.
