Well the Mercedes C63 AMG S Coupe is about $20K more plus weighs about 4,000 pounds. Surely the M2 is better handling? 0-60 is almost the same per the specs.

In a straight line, no doubt the AMG will pull. On a tight circuit, it may be close. Longer track, AMG will be faster (similar to the M3).

Driven M2 and c63s sedan. The only advantage for M2 when it comes to street driving is its size. Makes the car feel much more nimble.
In all other areas, noise, acceleration (from the butt dyno), luxury, etc. C63 beats the M2 by a significant margin.
C63 makes you feel like driving a super car adopted for daily driving.

I do love the size of the 2 series though, just perfect. And there is the priced gap of course

In Canada the gap between the M2 and the C63S is more like $35-40K.

M2 with Dct is 67k
C63s with some options is around 93.
That's around 26k difference.
And you can get things on mb that you can't have on the m2

Not an exact comparison but I've driven both the 235 (own one) and C43 (for a few days). Based on that, what are you planning to do with the car? Around town, in the twisties, BMW. if you're going to be doing lots of highway driving, value comfort etc with a lot of power, Benz.

If you're leaning Benz I'd honestly drive 43 and 63 back to back. I have and for me, where I am, kind of driving I do and roads around here, I'd take the 43. You may not want 4matic though.

In Australia it's $110 vs $171 brand new and that's being generous and including DCT exec pavkage on m2 just to be fair about it.
Aus currency is Canada equiv
ausd $1 = 1.02 Canadian

When the price difference is this much it's easy for me in Australia to simply put them in different categories. Especially as in reality you don't buy the low spec option if you're buying a six figure car. You spec the crap out of it.
Example, my M2 has very carbon option inside and out bar the winglets.
It's DCT and has every spec upgrade bar the illuminated sills. I do wonder why I didn't get them now as it came in at $125 aus and what's another $600 at that point.
The same specced C63s though, will come in at well over $200aus.
Ironic that it's frustrating that cars are so expensive in Australia but at least I don't have your (first world) problems in categorising them.
To be frank, even if they were smaller gaps, I still think of the M2 as the fun every day driver come track car and the C63s as a much more serious beast almost GT esq. It's the M4 vs M2 chestnut all over again. More luxury, more speed, more technology, more livibility, more money.
But it's easy for me, they are in two very different price brackets, the merc could easily cost double the M2 is Aus.
