Base 718 Cayman instrumented test
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...al-test-review
Lots of folks are/were cross-shopping these 2 cars, including myself. They have similar performance stats. The 718 does have a noticeable price premium though. The M2 is faster in the straights as evidenced by its 4 mph faster trap speed. The 718 is scalpel sharp. The buyer wins regardless of which one he/she chooses.

I'm thinking the base 2.0L is pretty maxed out just like the N55 is in the M2. It's boosting 20.3 PSI compared to 14.5 in the 718 S. I don't think a 100 HP gain is possible without a bigger turbo.

The 718s felt much faster than the 718 just like the 991s felt way faster than the 718s. I would be interested to see how fast is the 718s.
Motortrend ran a 12.8@107.5 on the M2 (slowest I've seen) which this 718 is a good matchup. Sportscar vs daily all around sports coupe. By comparing to the sports car manufacture such as Porsche that tells you how good the m2 is. M2 will continue to dominate it's class until some competition arrives TTRS/RS3 in this luxury pocket rocket. Good luck Audi since you better make them handle. |

They're quoting 4.9 on US website. There are 2 contributing factors the way I see it. German car manufacturers underrate their car capabilities including 0 to 60. Also, C&D performs multiple, varying rpm clutch dumps in order to record their best acceleration times.

It's embarrassing for the M2, 5 years ago the base cayman was much slower than the 1M. In Canada for similar equipment the cayman is
about 11000$ more expensive. It does handle and brake better. I'm really looking forward for the next GTS/GT4 BMW have lost ground to Porsche in recent years. Unless your can only have one car the Cayman is the one to have. |
