iDrive - updates?

Hi all

I see that there is a new version of the iDrive software out now with the new 5 series - iDrive 6 I think with the sliding tiles as per this image:

Curious to know if :

1) Will new X1 models ordered from now have this latest version supplied?

2) Do BMW provide as a general policy free updates to all cars with iDrive to have the latest s/w - ie. via OTA or via manual download?

Cheers!

No, its Idrive 6 in the new G30.

Yes, Idrive 5 has been out less than a year and already replaced.

X1 is scheduled to receive Idrive 6 during 2017. So are other BMW models

Its not software, its a major hardware change.
You cannot upgrade.
As mentioned above the X1 will receive it for models produced later in 2017.

Boo!

That sucks. I read some blogs stating that 2017 X1s will get the idrive 6 gear....

No idea when in 2017 though.

I'll let you know 11/10 whether US 17's have them ;-)

I donīt think they would give the new toys to us, rebadged MINI drivers before G30 will get it, so I think it is more like 18 models in late 2017

The X1 currently uses completely different hardware than the rest of the BMW lineup with navigation. The X1 uses the HU_ENTRYNAV head unit for both Navigation Business and "upgraded" Navigation Plus.

All other BMWs have Navigation Professional with the HU_NBT2 head unit.

Not sure if BMW plans to put the upgraded head unit in future X1's, or just update the basic head unit with a new GUI to match.

No, not 2017 model years, 2017 production.
Earliest would be March 2017 production
