Audi RS3 saloon official - 394bhp for compact super saloon

http://www.evo.co.uk/audi/a3/18333/a...t-super-saloon

Audi has unveiled an all-new RS3 Saloon which features a huge 394bhp from its 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

The car's engine matches the recently launched TT RS for power, although acceleration figures are still to be released. Also adopted from the TT is Audi's digital 'Virtual Cockpit' complete with its special RS rev counter and information display.

Audi claims 354lb ft of torque for the RS3 Sedan, which matches the car up almost exactly with the Ford Focus RS. The 0-62mph time of 4.1 seconds however puts it a step above the RS, matching it instead with the BMW M3. So too does the car's top speed of 155mph, with Audi removing the electronic limiter and seeing the RS3 run on to 174mph.

Audi will offer optional RS sports suspension plus with adaptive dampers on the RS3 Saloon, as well as the abillity to alter driving characteristics through comfort, auto and dynamic modes.

Compared to a standard A3, the RS3 is lowered by 25mm and has larger 370mm front discs with eight-piston calipers. Carbon ceramics can be specified at the front of the car. As standard the car comes on 19-inch wheels with 235/35 tyres. 255/30 will be an option at the front

The car will use a wider track than the standard S3 and also include a pair of large oval exhausts to help with the car's distinctive five-cylinder sound.

If you're yet to read it, have a look at our review of the current-gen TT RS, which will give you an idea of how the new five-cylinder performs.

Expect more on the RS3 Saloon from the Paris Motor Show as it continues.

Coincidentally they launch the car on the same day I'm pulling my deposit for one.

Base Price should come in around 50K. This will compete with the M2. The interior blows the M2's out of the water. No manual though. If you must have 4 doors this is a pretty nice option.

Audi's cars are so bland...that side profile looks like every other compact sedan out there, a bit disappointing to be honest.

Really digging the massive oval exhaust though, mean as hell!

The S3 is already the same price as the M2 in Canada, so I'm guessing for our market this will be priced closer to the M3/4 than M2.

Yes, I must admit interior is much better than the M2... I really like the virtual instrument cluster and the ability to customize it (and overlaying nav there). Very cool!

Exhaust note is also a plus... and slightly better than the M2 (though that is no slouch).

Minuses are the boring as sh*t styling and the lack of a standard. AWD is also a minus for driving feel (but a plus for perhaps driving 4 seasons, which I will not even try with my M2 when it comes). I am neutral on the number of doors.

Disagree with the pricing being competitive with the M2. This will likely be a typical Audi... everything being optional for extra $$$. Kit it up to the M2 feature level and it will likely be $10K over... maybe more.

Remove one of those minuses and I might consider it. Maybe it can be tarted up in the aftermarket to look better... but that would likely add another $5K premium to the already high price.

Still love that sound tho!!!

Base price won't be 50K. The S4 Base is 50K. This will start high 50's before it gets into the hands of the dealers...and then who knows

i put my name down on one last year at the Audi dealer Ive been working with for years, I can't wait for it. That being said I also put my name down on the M2 CS/GT or whatever it will be.

I agree Audi of late has nothing exciting but that's part of why so many love the Audi, the front and rear look great, not sure about the wheels. Interior wayyyyy better than our M2's.

I think it's a great looking car. Audi does the whole sleeper look better than most. Cars have gotten too big. I think the RS3 has great proportions and have always loved the look of the S3 itself.... So this will be an even bigger jump.

If you want something more exotic looking: TT RS or R8.. and possibly a future R6. So they got their "non-boring" looking cars as well. But I understand when people complain of the sedateness of their sedans.

Audi would be nuts to price this close to the M3. That's meant for the RS4.

The TTRS (same engine as RS3) is slated between $60 -$68K. And the TT model always goes substantially more than the A3.

So... I think the RS3 is going to start in the $50K range easily.

And yes... I'm interested in it for a DD.

Seeing the pictures makes me even more happy I went with the m2. The styling is so boring. I find the ttrs extremely exciting but that won't be out till next June and chances are it'll be close to 70k

I'm going to let fate decide.... I've got my tickets already for Germany in the spring, and if I get an allocation will get the M2 and pick up in Munich (local dealer thinks the hysteria will be over by then)... If there are any hassles, I'll just wait for the RS3 and get that instead. It looks great from the front, ok from the back, and Meh from the side. RS models should be more special. Will need a bit of drop, and better wheels at least whereas the M2 is ok out of the box. Also sucks that they didn't put the wave rotors on it, but I can solve that with some CNC machine time in the garage - will be fun to make some for the M2 also.

Impressive car, but unfortunately I wouldn't personally get one for a couple of reasons:
-Price: It's going to start at least at 57k pushing 60 plus Audis residuals are always bad even with cars like the A3 and A4.
-Looks: I personally don't like the headlights, interior, the seats are way nicer than the M2 I'll admit that but the screen looks like an Ipad glued to the car some might say it's simplistic I personally like the dashboard of the M2 blends better with the car IMO. Also while it looks aggressive the Audi S and RS lines they don't look as aggressive as BMW M or even Mercedes AMG's.
-Dealers: Not sure if it's the dealerships in South Florida, but all Audi dealerships I've been to all SA have this attitude. They all think their cars are simply better than BMW's or Mercedes, and often compare the S line to M division.

The car itself it's pretty impressive and i like the idea of the small sedan, would love if BMW created an M2 GC.

I drove an S3 about a year ago (along with the new A4). It was pretty nice, room not too bad, handled nicely, newer model will have electronics of the A4 so that's nice too.

The problem was that Audi had not pinned down their plans for the S4 engine yet, and the RS3 was far off, thus I strayed back to BMW. I also drove an RS5 on a track event four years ago, that car sounds awesome.

The new RS3 will be a great little sedan. AWD is great to have year round. The back seat on the S3/A3 was not bad, certainly better than the M2.

The question is how many will they import to the US? Will the dealers demand a markup? etc.

These are the best pictures I have seen of this car - I really like what they've done with the front...it is a really nice looking car.

Definitely going to be checking this out...can't wait....

Coupe or Sportback please.

Sedan is really an inappropriate form for S/RS3 to come in.

Surprised to hear you say that. The only thing I don't like on the Audi is horrible dashboard. The round air vents look out of place on that particular dash board. WTF were they thinking when they came up with the design?

The car looks like it's built to last 100 years. But it doesn't look very powerful/agressive to me.

And the pictures are shot at a track. This car is not for the track.
A very fast street(q)-car with a breathtaking sound an a nice interior. And that's about it imho.

Cheers
