Video- Thunderhill West M235i

I'm sure someone might enjoy or benefit from seeing this footage of my car on the West track at Thunderhill Park. My OBD module was a bit behind the footage and I'm not sure how acuarate the throttle reading or speeds really were.

Had a great time and it's my first time putting the M235 on the track. No real complaints and extremely impressed to have a car that rides so well to and from the track. Looks fantastic, and still has the ability to hang with several fully prepped track cars.

The PSS tires are a great tire but have issues with rolling in corners especially if the temperatures get outside of optimal ranges. The factory LSD shines on the track and if you plan to do much track time it's worth it. Brakes held up with no real evidence of fade. I wasn't trying to fry them to be fair. I like this car and it's not like fully prepped cars I've had in the past where I'd beat them relentlessly.

Ancient thread, but good driving, especially on the PSS! Looks like you can carry a bit more speed through 3-4, which tends to have the biggest effect on lap times -- the essses after them are just a glorified straight.

Thunderhill West is easily my favorite track in CA, it has such a nice rhythm to it. I was stuck in the low 1:30s there for a fair bit of time in my M240, until this weekend when I finally started dipping reliably in the 1:29s. Looking at the data, there's at least a couple more seconds in this setup, ironically in the "throwaway" corners (5, 8, 10).

Hadn't been to the west course at Thunderhill in a while.
Car's very different from that last video now -- 285 tires all around, bigger brakes, stiffer springs. That added up to ~3s faster on the (relatively) short lap here.

There's still lots of driving to clean up -- on this lap, T4 & T8 at the least.

Cool vids. How did you ever get 285's on the front? Widebody kit?

Yes, m235ir fenders. We're still sorting some of the details out -- I've had quite a few sidewall failures with 285/30 tires. Will probably try 275/35 for the extra sidewall next, but that will be even harder to fit.

Thunderhill West CW (in reverse) has become a somewhat popular config in the last couple of years. I'd only done it once before for a session or two when I was barely starting to do track things. So it was like learning a new track.

Happy with the consistency -- lots of laps within .2 sec.

I had my first HPDE at Thunderhill West with the Reno SCCA chapter over the weekend. I ran in the novice class so I was focused on the essentials like safety, learning the course, track ettiquette, etc and I didnt get a transponder to record times, but my instructor said I was running fastest in the novice group around a 1:38, and got faster from there in sessions #3 and 4 with less traffic. Next time I'll run in the intermediate group with a transponder for some hard numbers. It was so fun to push the car hard and it held up great.

I ended up with a 1:33.08. Five seconds faster than my novice group sessions last year, with about half a second to find based on my best theoretical time. I was consistent at around a 1:33.5 with variance up and down a bit with temps on track after excluding the laps with traffic. I'll post the best lap after I get the chance to pull the footage and match up the laps to Harry's Laptimer.

I'll be back next month to see how much I can improve!
