E46 CSL is the only m product with which everybody forgives the lack of manual gearbox option. But the fact of very few even mentioning it, which indicates their very limited or no real experience of the car, feels just not right and leads me to thinking the majority of the fans are keyboard ones who didnt even get to drive a regular SMG e46 m3.

Appreciating something classic is definitely a cooler thing than pursuing the latest fashion. Teenagers/young adults are grown enough to know that.

CSL was never available in the market where I live, and it's unlikely that I ever will have the luck to get to try one. All I know about it - it's cool in the pictures.

Well, I haven't driven this car, but I have driven an SMG tranny. Why in the world they did not fit a manual in this car at least as an option is beyond me.

SMG (all versions) was horrible.

I would prefer the M3 CSL over the M2 perhaps for the airbox sound and the manual steering, but that SMG Box would be a killer expense if it fails and it really mostly cracked off gear shifts in neck snapping fashion.

You definitely needed to use the paddles in manual mode. Anyone interested in an M2 DCT would probably never give a second look at the E46 M3 with SMG because of the warranty and how much improvement there has been in AUTOMATIC transmissions with DCT.

Maybe one can retrofit the 6 MT from the CS into the CSL to make it the perfect car??

They need to do one of these against a regular E46 M3. Hard for me to relate to a CSL when we never got any here.
